Re: Salvation Army - Whitmore Square

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe dsriggs is referring to the federation cottage on the corner. Its a single level home with quite a sizable yard. The last time I saw it in person it had extensive fire damage to its rear roof. Hopefully it can be restored and still used as a home.

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

Out of all the buildings in that area, the Intercontinental is the only building in my opinion that has aged the best. If its re-clad or repainted, it will only age quicker and require more maintenance. A good clean is all it needs but I do fear with its upcoming refurbishment that it will be turned...

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

You watch, it will be some shade of grey for sure. I also noticed Adelaide Metro has also fallen victim to the Monument Grey trend with the repainting of a few stations including Woodlands. Personally, I think its hideous and any other actual colour would be an improvement over a shade of grey.

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

I'm surprised it hasn't been redeveloped already especially around the time that Wave went up next door. Wonder if it has anything to do with its former use being a service station. Maybe the storage tanks are still under there and the land would need a far bit of remediation.

I really don't understand Adelaide's obsession with building tiny platform shelters that don't even offer any protection or even look good. So many of these useless shelters across the Adelaide Metro network.

[CAN] Re: New Mayfield | 41-61m | 11-17lvls | Mixed Use

I used to work not far from this site ten years ago. It was sad to see it sitting empty then and still is. I really don't understand why heritage buildings and other properties are allowed to be bulldozed when sites like this sit vacant for decades on end especially in a capital city. Does this stuf...

[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)

In the above series of photos, are the footings in the top left of the area from the old 1950's wing of the RAH or are they newly constructed?

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

The only positive I can find about the facade change is that it lets in more natural light for tenancies facing the Mall. I could be wrong but the amount of windows hasn't changed - if anything it will let less light in as the cladding has gone on top of existing windows especially in the photo sho...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I don't understand this government logic that the current population doesn't warrant a new rail link. What ever happened to "Build it and they will come" - rail and public transport corridors should be factored into any new development. There is no point in waiting until everyone moves in ...

A very stumpy and plain design and not a very good use of the land I think.

Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide

Has there been any updates on the former Harbours Building? Its looking worse everytime I see it with more windows boarded up. I hope it still gets the "1970's hotel" treatment that was originally proposed many years ago.

I'll reserve judgement until i see what they have done to the inside of the GPO. If its been whitewashed or gutted, zero stars.

Re: News & Discussion: Other Metropolitan Developments

I live in a 1950's double brick home and don't often need heating or cooling until days like today (41 degrees). However, I noticed the house behind us (built approx. 5 years ago with a dark grey tiled roof) has their cooling doing almost 24/7 during summer. I'd hate to think what their elec bill wo...
