Re: Integrated Design Commission & Thinkers in Residence cut

I'm so disappointed by this decision. The government has to be "seen" to be cutting its cloth? How depressing. This is not a worthwhile saving, just a stage show and they know it! Small thinking at its worst. I know petitions often amount to little, but if you'd like to record your discor...

Re: The Economic News Thread

So, if I'm correct, this was a report by the HIA itself - who are interested in seeing plenty of land released (and released as quickly as possible, by the sounds of Robert Harding's comments). This sounds like the sprawl machine in action to me.

Re: News: Adelaide City Council

Hi Queen Anne, Perhaps my labelling of consultation as a "tokenistic process of public scrutiny" was a little harsh but when you see how many well-reasoned submissions that are peremptorily dismissed by Council you would understand my somewhat cynical view of the consultation processes of...

Re: General Suburban Projects & Discussion

Thanks Queen Anne. For other Unley residents, the page is: http://www.unley.sa.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=773&c=17283 Thanks QA & SRW, i don't live in Unley, but completed the survey anyway (it's not just targeted at local residents). My input focused on the need for upfront & ongoing educa...

Re: New Retail in the CBD

I wonder if it's got anything to do with the economic troubles in Europe and America? For example, I heard somewhere that more international bands are touring Australia because of the financial woes overseas and people having less money to spend.

Re: General Suburban Projects & Discussion

I hope this is in the right place.. I Was listening to ABC Adelaide this morning and the Unley mayor spoke about the plans for seven storey apartments along Greenhill and Unley Roads as part of the 30 year plan. A lady from the Friends of the City of Unley Society (FOCUS) spoke and it sounds like th...

Re: Food Thread

That's interesting. Tom Colicchio is really, really famous in America due to the huge success of his show Top Chef.

Re: Urbanism and business

I've never really completely bought the idea that people simply go where the jobs are. I think that if Adelaide had thought about this long ago - that jobs alone are not enough to attract people and keep them - we would be in a far better position than we are. We could be decades into a transformati...

Re: News: Adelaide City Council

I am also appalled at the increasing number of vacant buildings/sites throughout the city. Its beyond me that perfectly located grand buildings like 1 King William Street, old Colonial Building, former arcade along North Terrace (forgot its name!) etc could sit there for years all boarded up collec...

[COM] Re: SOS for 'dying' Rundle Mall

Now I'm off to make my silly self some breakfast, maybe some protein will knock some sense into me. Oh come on you. You need carbs in the morning. Debate was never meant to be polite, and I've been called worse than silly on here. Someone once called me a c*%t! I'm a fan of yours generally (and the...

[COM] Re: SOS for 'dying' Rundle Mall

You can disagree without saying someone's thoughts are silly, ya know. Yes. Except when the thoughts are actually silly. In what universe does a development always, without fail, deliver excellent results? It is not foolsih for me to raise the possibility that covering the mall could work against t...

[COM] Re: SOS for 'dying' Rundle Mall

And why not cover parts of the Mall? Just parts? It could create some architectural interest as well as being a practical thing for wet weather and creating a different ambience. There need be no interruption of the view of Rundle Lantern. Silly argument. You can disagree without saying someone's t...

[COM] Re: SOS for 'dying' Rundle Mall

I feel like it's a media beat up too. The problem is, if they keep bringing it up we are going to end up with most people assuming Rundle Mall needs drastic "help". The idea of covering the mall mystifies and worries me. What would be meant by an "all-weather covering" that is no...
