Re: News & Discussion: Roads & Traffic

Throwing massive amounts of money to target small problem areas to give the perception of doing something. Anyone else smell an election coming up?

[U/C] Re: Oaklands Crossing | $174m

If you look through the scope of works outlined in the March newsletter, then it becomes apparent that the rail closure period is also being used to undertake other upgrades further along the rail corridor beyond where the Oaklands crossing upgrade is being finished.

[COM] Re: Burnside Village (Extension)

Wonder if David Jones is even interested in a 4th Adelaide site given Rundle Mall store is 6kms away from Burnside (15min)? They should invest their money and upgrade/downsize the Marion store as they did West Lakes I think David Jones is more interested in going down the boutique format like they ...

[U/C] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

I wonder how deep the water table in the area is, and if it rises when the Torrens floods. What happens if the bottom of the car park is below it? The site of the car park does rise a fair bit from the river heading up to North Terrace. Generally basements are constructed either with a waterproofin...

The concrete slabs around the void for the tower crane would incorporate ferrules at the interface with the void, which would allow the reinforcing bars for the infill slab sections to be continuous with those of the rest of the slab.

What is being placed between the concrete gaps? And is there a finish/gloss to the concrete itself? Can't tell from the renders, but it looks like the space between the glazing at each level could be either stone or metal cladding. Either way, the renders don't show the glazing running full height.

I see that post-tensioning is being used for the slabs on this building.

That picture really sums up the Australian taxation office. They would have to be one of the most hopeless organisations in the history of the world.
To be fair, it's more likely to be the landlord's responsibility than the ATO's.

I can't help but notice how slender the columns look, particularly one on the receiving end of a column load offset - that would be imposing some significant bending forces on the column.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

They are barely 10 years in service, but several A380 planes are already up for scrapping. Singapore Airlines recently got rid of a couple, and other airlines may follow suit. The airlines are more in favour of the smaller and more energy efficient 787 Dreamliners and A350s. It will be interesting t...

I've never understood how core rises actually work, so perhaps someone can explain... How does the corrugated iron box at the top lift itself every time the concrete has been poured on a new level? Because often I see cores rise but they don't remove the box it just rises... The core walls at each ...

I think there are four elevator shafts in the core from the plans I remember seeing somewhere - two next to each other in the south western corner of the core, and two on opposite sides of the corridor on the northern side. Two elevators running full height, and two run only to about level 20 or so....

The sequence of photos (thanks!) clearly shows that the excavators at the back have been removing piles which look to have been created fairly recently. Has anybody found out why? Were they necessary to shore up something until something else happened, and now they are in the way? Hi there, the pil...

[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor

The project is only at concept design stage, so the proposal could still change. It does appear the only elevated section of the new motorway section is the overpass over Regency Road - the rest of the motorway looks to be at grade including where it connects to the South Road Motorway.
