Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide

Yeah, metal and asbestos. Can fix asbestos. Newport quays and now "dock one" both look like generic suburban density projects which will age terribly and our children will curse us for destroying the Port Heritage and building such crap, much as we lament the generations before us for ripping down ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

The whole idea of IA is to sift out the uneconomic schemes. if only that was how they operated in practice. Morisson coming in through a spanner in the works as if Turnball was still here it almost certainly would have been announced. Will be interesting to see what a Fed Labor government do.

Re: Mad March 2019

This year was the most fun I have had yet. Clipsal (sorry 'superloop') weekend to the end of Womad weekend was amazing. I am struggling to think of other places/ events/ festivals that I have been to anywhere overseas let alone Australia that have such an eclectic and interesting variety of people a...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

With the T20 World Cup in Oct 20 what’s the chances they will announce a tram extension to AO and ready by then? I recall reading somewhere that extensive re-work of the King William street bridge would be needed to run trams over it due to modern engineering standards and hence why it stopped shor...

[APP] Re: Adelaide Oval Hotel

How's this for a compromise: Hotel is allowed to go ahead with government funding support, but any profits from it are put towards enhancing the parkland. If the development is actually as they say about making the oval a more unique destination then they should be happy with it being allowed to go...

New York to Perth, landed 5.30am and was working by 8am. Brutal.
How did you not fall asleep standing up? Perth is just about as far from New York as you can get
Lot's of caffeine and will power. Actually fell asleep standing up on the train after work!

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Just imagine the boom for cafes along Prospect road after AFL/ cricket fixtures at Adelaide Oval if the tram went along Prospect road. It would spread the activity beyond the immediate vicinity of North Adelaide. Last I heard the North Adelaide traders were flat after the Adelaide Oval redo. Zero l...

The carpark and Hanson Institute no longer marked for demolition. :/
Disappointing! Those buildings are utterly without merit. I'm sure as the site becomes more successful there will be other opportunities to redevelop these areas, if not return them to botanic gardens.

[APP] Re: Adelaide Oval Hotel

The private development creep on the parklands on the other hand must be stopped. We all know that this hotel is not actually taking green space, but what it is doing is allowing private interests to commercialise what is currently a public space (Yes we can also put forward the Casino, intercontin...

Mods - this is becoming a little off topic and more about parklands overall, if wish to move to the pub, happy to continue conversation over there.
I don't see how it's off topic when the context of where this project is being proposed and what it represents is at the very heart of the issue.

JAKJ, I'm sure there are many that agree with your comments, however, I'm not one of them. We all dont have to agree on these issues and robust debate should be encouraged. Its important that each side present sound, rational arguments to fully express why they feel a certain way without being pige...

While I won't reply individually to the people who have resorted to petty name calling, a number of members here can't seem to see the wood from the trees (pardon the pun) when talking about the parklands and their development. Opposing this hotel and commercial development in general on the parklan...

[APP] Re: Adelaide Oval Hotel

Well, I'm going against the general consensus here, i like it. I think the proposal compliments the existing infrastructure and is a unique addition. As for the whole "you cant build on the parklands" thing, large swathes of parkland are barren, useless dustpans. I think we should activate sections...

[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)

Considering WA squeezed the most out of the mining boom whilst SA struggled to get their own slice of the boom off the ground because of interstate activity, I'd say we're owed this one and anything else that comes our way. We have one of the more fragile state economies so we'll take anything that...
