[COM] Re: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment Thread - Now Includes Poll!
To be honest I really couldn't give a tinkers cuss about the Skycity expansion, it will be an extension of what? - Pokies. It will hardly resemble something out of a 60's bond movie, we are not taking about class or style, been to Crown in Melbourne lately? +1, and furthermore, from The Economist -...

"How Buildings Learn" - Stewart Brand
I'm a big fan of the book, and I just learned that there was also a TV series made of it, with the author presenting. The theme of the book is investigating how buildings are adapted over time by their occupants and examining which buildings do this well and which badly. It made a big impression on ...

[COM] Re: SWP Rundle Pl:Bendigo-Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 72
Thanks for the info. Looking at the various aerial images I'm surprised at how many buildings made up the Harris Scarfe store. It's not just one building as I had always thought. That's pretty typical of older buildings. It was common for a series of adjacent buildings to be bought by a single busi...

Art Gallery of SA - British Art Now
http://www.artgallery.sa.gov.au/agsa/home/Exhibitions/saatchi_in_adelaide.html The Art Gallery have managed something of a coup - from July to October, they will be exhibiting a collection of contemporary British art from London's Saatchi Gallery . Most (all?) of this collection has not come to Aus...

[CAN] Re: PRO: Former Merc on Gouger site | 14 levels | Apartments
Is it really correct that a project gets major project status because it's over the height limit for an area? Sounds a bit odd to me. I read that part as "we would like to go outside the zoning on this site, which conventional planning won't let us do, so we'll try to make a case for major pro...

^ Putting construction costs and finance costs together in the budget is a violation of accounting practice. Construction is an asset, financing is a liability. The asset is expensed down over its life as depreciation. Debt principle is never expensed, interest is expensed as it is incurred. Differ...

[COM] Re: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment Thread - Now Includes Poll!
The reason I ask is because although some legitimate points can be deduced from that study, for most part those examples cannot be applied to the Adelaide Oval situation, as in those cities, old stadiums in the suburbs were replaced with new stadiums in the suburbs. In essence, you were not fixing ...

[COM] Re: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment Thread - Now Includes Poll!
Yes, people voted Labor for a variety of reasons, but the oval was part of their platform and they were voted in. That would be more compelling if the Liberal's weren't also running with a stadium proposal of their own. That said, having a referendum on every large project is pretty close to my def...

IIRC, Ian McLachlan mentioned a target of starting construction after next year's test against India (Australia Day?). But that was just a fleeting comment at the end of an interview.
