[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

The office tower component of the Festival Plaza redevelopment is described as follows by Walker Corporation: With the best office accommodation in Adelaide, aimed at 6 Green Star, the twin towers will attract local blue chip companies, interstate and global commercial tenants for the economic benef...

Re: Henley Beach/Grange | Developments & News

Isn't there an issue here of private appropriation of public space? Ownership of land gives the owner the right to exclusive occupation of the land, but not occupation of adjoining public land. If there is such occupation, there should be an agreed licence and a fee. I suggest that it is beyond the ...

Re: SA Economy

I agree with both Warwick and Nathan, but I also think realism I should required. No one wants to talk down the state, but Pollyanna-ish optimism is no use either. The first thing we need is realism. SA's gross state product is about $100 billion, the same size as Manchester/Salford in the UK, and a...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

I'd like to see a cost/benefit analysis of the battery proposal. It's clearly politically beneficial. Weatherill's adoring gaze towards Elon Musk indicates that. But is it worth it? There will be no development application and no environmental impact study. It will simply be built. It's ironic that ...

Re: Another widespread power outage in SA

bits and Vee - The question is what a reliable baseload supply will cost. It is no advantage to have a reliable system at an uncompetitive cost for baseload generation. If we could have reliable baseload generation at an affordable cost, clearly we would not have a problem. Solar PV panels have come...

Re: Torrens Swamp...

I agree that there should be someone or something whose specific role is the health and future of the Torrens. Around 2000, Michael Harbison the mayor at the time promoted a plan that was basically the idea of an architect called Robert Cheesman to create where the new RAH is a large recreational la...

Re: Another widespread power outage in SA

It's splitting hairs to say we don't have a generation capacity issue, or that the outage had nothing to do with wind generation. The blunt fact is that we no longer have a robust power supply. We may have plenty of capacity; it wasn't available. Wind generation may have been functioning perfectly; ...

Another widespread power outage in SA

Tonight, just after 1am, power failed across metropolitan Adelaide with domestic and commercial users, and street lights out of power in widespread locations across the suburbs and possibly the state. SA Power Networks says the cause of the blackout has not been determined. There is almost no wind t...

rev and Serra particularly, and everyone generally. I'm not a member of the Liberal Party or any other party. I happen to agree with most of rev's criticisms of the Liberal Party, and I'd go further in some directions. The present SA Liberals are one of the most inept, inward looking, wrongly focuss...

Re: New Royal Adelaide Hospital

Large construction sites can involve hundreds of workers and thousands of processes, often not ideally coordinated. Deaths on construction sites are obviously a very serious concern for site managers and workers, and a lot of effort is continunally expended to make sites safer. The main causes of de...

Re: New Royal Adelaide Hospital

Norman - There's a legal battle on, with the govt refusing to accept handover and the $1 million per day that obliges it to pay, and the construction consortium disputing the govt's complaints and talking about a counter claim. I'm not well informed about the state of completion of the site or about...

New Royal Adelaide Hospital

I'm surprised the fiasco of the government's New RAH development isn't receiving more prominence here. At just under $3 million per bed for its 800 beds it's the most expensive hospital ever built, and has no land purchase component. That's at the current blown out cost of $2.34 billion compared wit...

For your information, rev, I am not a member of any political party and have nothing to do with any political party. Gillman land non-sale

It's surprising that with the failure of Adelaide Capital Partners to front with the first payment for its Gillman project, there is no thread on Sensational Adelaide about it, despite the extensive media coverage. Am I missing something?
