That plan would make the Glenelg beach 600m wide after all the sand gets trapped by the breakwater
That's unavoidable if you want a protected harbour and marina. Besides sand can be carted away at the end of every winter. Not an insurmountable issue.

We would have the problem of particulate and SOx pollution from cruise ships right in the heart of Glenelg. I think they're best kept out of sight, out of our air.
There's also shore power that will limit any pollution issues. Newer cruise ships also use LNG.

Re: Glenelg Ferry & Cruise ship terminal

We could add in a new marina at or near the new ferry terminal to house sailing yachts as well! The Adelaide Sailing Club could also move to Glenelg, given its attractiveness and less aircraft noise compared to their current site at West Beach. Absolutely. Any expansion is welcomed. I have other co...

Also, not sure if anyone has noticed or whether this has been the case for ages, but it looks like they've upgraded the grass images at all of the gates to represent how Adelaide is looking nowadays.
Did you mean the "gross" images?

They had some nice plane trees, a species that has shown to be good in our hot and dry conditions, hope they won't stuff this up by planting gum trees (eucalyptus). In that case they should be shot.

Trees are in the process of being cut down. They’ve fenced off the whole north side of North Tce.
Fuckwits. Perhaps elm trees OK if dead but if they were still healthy like the plane trees before them why get rid off them. Were they a nuisance?

Not complete but I took this yesterday. realm looks bigger from south side. Ben, if you have a tripod use that and a spirit level. The vertical lines need to be perpendicular to the floor. Of course try your best. I straightened the image up and used guide lines to see how much higher Realm is comp...

Will there be a sensational adelaide catch up to celebrate this topping out ? In my early 40's now, I was only a kid when Westpac house went up. I can barely remember it. If it takes another 33 years for us to get another new tallest then many of us won't see it happen. It's taken a long time for t...

Re: Glenelg Ferry & Cruise ship terminal

Here's one of a few concepts I put together a few years ago when there was talk about a ferry terminal at Glenelg. This one doesn't include moorings for large yachts. I also thought the terminal could house an aquarium or a museum. It would have cafes, shops etc. Possibly room for conventions and ev...

Re: Glenelg Ferry & Cruise ship terminal

It needed to be 381 metres to support coastal shipping. How much longer would it have needed to be to support international clipper ships then, and how much longer still to support a modern cruise liner? I have no problem with the concept, but can't imagine it being even remotely cost effective. I ...

The shocking thing about your photo Goodsy and a previous one taken from Hackney Road of these two towers is the lack of trees in front of those parked cars. The fuckwits who did the O-Bahn tunnel ripped up all those mature plane trees. A curse on them. Sorry had to get this off my chest. As for tal...

Westpac is at 68m above sea level. Adelaidean is at 53m. That's a significant difference in height. I am fairly sure those numbers are not correct. The data I've seen has street level adjacent Westpac at approx 44mAHD and street level adjacent Adelaidean at approx 41mAHD. So only a few metres diffe...
