Re: News & Discussion : New Restaurants, Bars & Night Clubs

i remember seeing the recently closed Overland hall with the general winding down of the station from the days of large passenger trains using it. Even in 1973 the overland was in two divisions of about 12 coaches each. All later developments were very disappointing. Seeing this new development look...

Amen to that. A rare type of architecture left in Adelaide. Imposing and...grand in the true sense! (on a highly visible location - looked twice as big as a result). The replacement is a shocker except for the lights.

[PRO] Re: Port Adelaide Dock Spur Line

Now how on earth was that not heritage listed. How was it allowed to be demolished! Who knows, it's just bizarre. Pt. Dock had a very unusual architectural style. Many of the old style manned stations have disappeared in Adelaide - this one amongst them. The train shed was very English with the all...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

I suspect the next thing the Marshall gov't will do is not use the spur at all, citing all sorts of reasons - incl. it being pointless if going no further. They won't make much effort in capitalising on this line, give it bad public profile etc etc. Will be interested to see if I am right. ADELAIDE ...

Re: Compliments Space

I too have noticed far more aggression than in years gone by when there was much more focus was on Adelaide and what each could contribute. I have observed also that the info is much improved and more detailed overall. The vibe about support of the city is still there - better than you get in other ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

You guys forgot the effort we made to electrify in 1973. Cables were seen in Islington yards. Then another effort around 1918 - the evidence wad the side loading dogboxes we got - each compartment had a door to the platfoms. All gone now - used o travel with the centenary cars in the 70's. Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

While we are on department stores, we had Birks, Myer, DJ's, Cox Foys, Millers, Moores, Harris Scarfe's, John Martin's and one opposite the Rundle Mall carpark. Only ones I don't remember are Birk's and the one opposite the old Grand Central Hotel. Rundle Mall was crammed with people ALL the time as...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Patronage no big surprise. Like all other new lines built here, this line will help with further CBD development and student usage. NOT going no where. Will help with making the city more pedestrian friendly. (All aided by rising fuel prices). Hope this speaks to the Marshall clan to see the advanta...

I note here the absence of funding for the north terrace right hand turn! Interesting - the Libs have left it out it seems. Maybe I have reacted too soon.

First response - love it. Breaking through the perpetual 18 floor ceiling. Looks phenomenally tall. Love the tall slim look. Have to wait and see if it is as good as it looks. Definitely a skyscraper.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

After reading months of negative news and comments about the trams (many after the change of state government) one starts to believe there is no hope for any more lines, especially when the public are fed so much in the news. Interestingly, before the NT event I perceived there was very different fe...

Love it!!! pity it could not have been something similar on the GPO or next to it. Hope it has awnings as well. The one next to it was not going to have footpath cover but this got altered at the very end. Saw it go up in the 1980's. We will now have 4 bldgs of similar height. Starting to get some r...

Ben, u mentioned the info I found out was speculation. If you dont really know this, to say what the people at Lumineque told me is assumption is not a good base to proceed with in logic. I also understand that it is their business to know the industry into which they are entering with Luminesque. B...

When I was in Adelaide 2.5 weeks ago I went to the Luminesque showroom. In my discussion there Echelon came up.The info from the Luminesqe display rooms is that Echelon is still going, albeit with a change in those being appealed to (future clientele). They have NOT given up. ADELAIDE - TOWARDS A GR...
