That's a very insular perspective. The build should be awarded to whoever puts in the best quote. What should happen doesn't always happen. I am sure that you heard of 'preferred tenderers', where other builders essentially don't even get a leg in. I didn't even see this project go out to tender an...

Re: News & Discussion: Cycling

First the right-turn for the tram, then the railway to Port Adelaide, now this. It's interesting that Minister Knoll has been "discovering" so many "unforseen cost blowouts". It's also interesting that none of them relate to road projects. Bridge at Goodwood railway station for cyclists put ‘on hold...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

Just guessing: Perhaps China has lots of airports, so the "China" flights are spread across more places and none of them feature in a "top ten" list. From what I have seen on TV, India has a strong railway system, so perhaps people fly to/from a smaller number of airports and use trains to/from the...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

Found this in a magazine I picked up from World Routes, adds something to the "where next" conversation! I'm not sure what the reason is for quite different layout of the two graphs. Combining them into a single sorted list looks like it becomes: Delhi Ho Chi Minh City Launceston Phuket Tokyo Chris...

I wonder if this means that 1 KWS was one of the buildings affected by the combustible cladding issue (SA's resolution to which being to remove the affected cladding to 3m above ground level)? I didn't think this ground-level cladding looked like it had an aluminium skin so it could just be that th...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

I’m not sure why you brought up the stereotype comment. I wasn’t commenting on stereotypes and who is the better money manager. They seem to all like to waste our money in one way or another. My remark was aimed at Labor's waste of money on public transport in general, but specifically the North Te...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Just on our rolled-gold Botanic Garden extension, the planted medians have already become overgrown with metre-high thistles. Disappointing if true, but not surprising in Adelaide. Probably arguing over who is responsible to maintain it... or it's been too wet/hot/dry/cold.. It's these small things...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

This will be a one term government. No doubt about it. If even their backers (business who donate their money to support their campaign) can't support the Liberals, then they have buckley's chance of mounting an effective electoral campaign. And even the most experienced political pundits would tel...

Re: Cedar Woods Glenside

Am I in minority finding these "modern" Cedar Woods developments, and the Starfish one up at Rostrevor - as homogenous and totally uninspiring? They seem to mandate a bland colour pallete, perpetuate the need for air-con 24/7 as I haven't seen a single eave or shade structure yet (lord knows how th...

If Walker is so convinced that the plan for the area is no good then we should encourage him to pass the project onto another developer. I'm sure we could find one who would be happy to have their name on a landmark public space rather than just seeing it as free CBD land. Could someone please expl...

The western hills bypass is established policy. Except it isn't. And it would be pointless. Think about it. The western hills bypass is established policy. (https://www.saglobelink.com.au/freight_corridor) Admittedly very light on detail, but established policy nonetheless. In its recent response t...

We should demand that all suburban lines be standardised as promised in 2007 to be completed by 2013 then we not be worrying about different gauges and trains could return to Bridge Water and extend to Mt Barker. Is standardisation of the suburban network really that big a priority, or necessary? S...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

It is literally called Cross Road. It's got a good name for a connector between the freeways. If it gets built, it should also go a bit further west and connect Anzac Hwy too. Another advantage of the Cross road tunnel option is that it could also be easily connected to the Airport. This could pote...
