[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

Will the tunnel have any entry/exit points along it's route, or just at either end? Personally I think Anzac Hwy, Sir Donald Bradman Dr and the City Ring route is a must for having entries/exits. The maybes for me would be Cross Rd, Daws Rd and then the exit near or at Henley Beach Rd. As has been ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

Curious why you think Singapore is a much better stopover? I don't necessarily disagree, but I don’t think the difference is really substantial (unless you talk about stopovers in terms of multi-day leave the airport ones) Not the right place to discuss this as we'll go off track. In short I mean a...

It could be something to do with a major redevelopment of the Wakefield Hospital site which has been sold. The hospital buildings will become vacant once the new Calvary is complete. This site may be incorporated into a complete redevelopment of this area. Do you know anything more about the detail...

No, the provision for the parallel runway is to the north of the existing runway and terminals. The reservation is clearly visible from satellite images, running from behind the existing long-term carpark, through land currently occupied by Harbourtown and the golf club. Are you sure about this dbl...

[VIS] Re: New Womens and Childrens Hospital

maybe a few councils and the state government could get together and fund a runway rebuild at a slightly different angle My understanding is that the area to the south-east of the existing runway is set aside for an additional runway if required in future. No, the provision for the parallel runway ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

If you're going to build a tunnel up there why not make it longer and more direct, starting it before Port Road. There could also then be a new underground Albert Park station near Tapleys Hill Road. We should be trying to remove as many level crossings as possible in the metro area and allow the t...

What also needs to happen is a third track to allow both express suburban trains to run and regional trains to Nuriootpa via Lyndoch and Tanunda There already is a third track between Adelaide and Salisbury (the standard gauge freight line). If the Adelaide network was standardised (quite a simple ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Adelaide Railway Staion is not on the edge of the CBD Yes it is. Check the map - you'll find it's on the northern edge. The idea that public transport can always take "right next door" to where you want to go is a fallacy. In large cities with great public transport like London and Paris, you still...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

There's no way Islington would be scrapped, it services an expanding retail and soon to commence high density housing precinct. If anything Dudley Park could be scrapped, it is in a low density suburb, has no provision for bus connections, is not highly visible from any main road and serves no shpp...

India? For what? New connections Id like to see is to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, probably better connections to Indonesia/Bali, and emerging tourist destinations like Vietnam. A lot of international travel is done by changing flights at some point. I don’t know why some people think Adelaide sho...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

1 million internationals? Jee, that's gotta be pretty good for a city of our size? Unfortunately we only have a 2.5% share of international passengers in Australia. The Gold Coast airport is on par with ours (despite the fact that theirs a terrible airport with no air bridges). Anecdotally, I would...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

If we're taking future development into account, or using a rail line to promote development then a new northern line would make more sense. Either doubling the Gawler line to Dry Creek with a new line across the salt flats which would continue north serving Bolivar/Burton, Virginia, Two Wells and ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Believe me, it has very little to do with neoliberalism. Governments and departments have budgets. If some group comes up with an idea that's going to cost billions, it's been the case since long before neoliberalism, or anything else that they look long and hard at that idea. The more it costs, th...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

That looks perfect for light rail which deals far better with closely spaced stops and rather winding routes. This route is more suitable for heavy rail/metro than light rail for a number of reasons. Firstly, the route is quite long and remote. Light rail has slower overall speeds and capacity, res...
