[PRO] Re: 188 Grenfell Street | 64m | 19 Levels | Student Accom

One good thing to come out of this is push back on façadism as a way of maintaining heritage. Wearing the old building as a skin, and gutting everything past 30cm deep has always felt like such a minimum effort approach, and implies that heritage is about what something looks like on the surface an...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Long commutes should be unpleasant enough to encourage better choices, which take time to change. More cross-suburban public transport would help people choose it. People who live in outer areas should work there, or people who work in outer suburbs should live there. Just like new freeways, new ra...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

There are practical difficulties with running high frequency services on single tracks. I'm not sure if the corridors are wide enough to easily duplicate the track without negotiating with dozens of land owners. Not impossible, but neither quick nor cheap. Victoria has been actively funding removal...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

It isn't difficult, we just need government to pull their finger out. Look at the engineering feats around the world, even in developing countries. A few new train lines aren't anything major. We’ve just go so used to nothing happening in this country that we think even the most basic infrastructur...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

To be honest, I cannot see a business case for urban rail to Virginia and Riverlea ever stacking up, despite being quite a large potential catchment area (40,000+ people). It would be an extension of about 16-17km which you would need to double-track to join it to the existing Gawler line. This is ...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Tower 1 | 115m | 27 Levels | Office

I know there's a much larger discussion over habitat and food for native fauna but I think the wholesale move away from non-native trees is a mistake in many inner urban applications. You’ve also got to remember that a lot of so-called native trees are from nowhere near Adelaide in the first place....

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Maybe this belongs in the Trams thread, but I don't really understand the push to put trams back down thoroughfares like Prospect Road, where they're just going to sit in traffic and get stuck at traffic lights, negating the benefit of building the line when it's still just as fast for people to dr...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Port Road is surely the most feasible location for a new depot. The government has just bought one large chunk of it, and has compulsory acquisition power for other parts (say, the former Coca Cola site). Get it done. I honestly can't see them using prime inner suburban land for a tram depot that c...

I reckon this demolition might just be something to do with the new supermarket which is opening next door. There's signs up about it in Wright Court.

Re: Cedar Woods Glenside

This mindless push of highrise in the suburbs is ridiculous and needs to stop, save a few key areas like Glenelg, The Port, and some arterial roads and where it makes sense with a public transport node that has capacity or it can be added. This isn't Sydney, we don't need to turn our suburbs into h...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

I highly doubt Adelaide Airport would turn down an offer of flights from United, or any other airline, just because they are waiting on China Southern and Cathay to restart flights. If an offer was on the table, why on earth would they choose to not let United in? It makes no sense. In any event, y...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

Can guarantee this won’t happen before we get China southern and Cathay back. It’s frustrating because those two are going to take a while to come back, and United are interested NOW, not in 5 years time, now. Bloody hell wish we didn’t have to wait on the Chinese all the time. Hardly a surprise. W...

[PRO] Re: 188 Grenfell Street | 14lvls | 46m | Mixed Use

why don't they just build this on the partially demolished Wright Street Hotel or the partially demolished King's Head hotel instead, since there's nothing else going on there right now. Or build it on the low-rise Wilson's parking next door. Literally anywhere else is better than this. So many der...
