Re: News & Discussion: Squares and Parklands

[quote=SRW post_id=179625 time=1555499674 user_id=1217] I refuse to give my money to NewsCorpse so can't read it, but there's a headline today that I believe indicates $20 million has finally been allocated to deliver the Whitmore Square masterplan. [/quote] I don’t support this at all. Spending tha...

If that latticework is lit up at night, it could be a real stunner.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

With the more exact wheel tracks used by guided buses, you'd expect that to be much worse unless the road was concrete, like the O-Bahn track. And there goes the biggest part of the cost advantage. Biggest cost advantage? Are you saying laying down concrete on the road is the major cost of a tram s...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

How can ACC not see this coming? They probably do, and why I wonder if it's a crafty strategy to finally kill the thing entirely. You (and others) are probably right, but why play these games? Supporters of the EW Bikeway aren’t going to go away .... they will simply propose an alternative route. I...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

I guess the only other available option to make this work is turning it into a one way st. Given you cant even traverse waymouth st from west to east (without detouring around light sq). It will introduce a lot more traffic congestion in the morning if traffic heading to the Topham Mall carpark has...

[VIS] Re: Memorial Drive upgrade

What you've mentioned are small roadblocks in the scheme of things. At the end of the day, this is about maximising the budget and consolidation. Not to mention that building a new arena on the rail-yards that is going to cost $450m more. It's the same argument that was had over consolidating crick...

[VIS] Re: Memorial Drive upgrade

The Advertiser has been told the construction cost of the Memorial Drv option, at a seating capacity of about 15,000 people, has been estimated at $250 million. The railyards option is put at $700 million, because it has a greater capacity and a retractable grass soccer pitch. I think the most feas...

Re: Vision: CBD Underground Rail Loop

I like the idea of a really big 2-level rail tunnel with station incorporated into the tunnel itself. It mitigates a big concern of mine which was whether we could afford a rail tunnel with multiple CBD stations due to the enormous cost of constructing the underground stations. With this arrangement...

There are TBMs that can dig diagonally down for escalator shafts. Here is an article on one used for the St Petersburg Metro: https://www.tunneltalk.com/TunnelTech-Aug12-Herrenknecht-technology-tackles-St-Petersburg-declining-metro-escalator.php Why couldn’t they build escalators within that 25m di...

The promenade would end at about the middle of where the current Coles is, it looks to be about 25m wide
The promenade can’t possibly be 25m wide. That would make it as wide as Rundle Mall.
I think you are being fooled by the perspective view. It’s probably between 12-15m wide.

[VIS] Re: Central Market

I normally prefer extensions to heritage buildings to be modern in design and contrast (but still respect) the existing heritage building.

However, with the Central Market redevelopment, the extension of the heritage brickwork just feels like the right thing to do. I really like it.

I wonder where the current stalllholders would go while the market is redeveloped? Simply having the central market disappear for a couple of years would be awful. The market is not not being redeveloped just the area where coles and the arcade is. In this image it certainly looks to me like the un...

[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)

I know people are wishing for contemporary art galleries and science museums etc ... but the reality (barring a change of state govt) is that we’re going to get an Indigenous Art and Culture Gallery. So the question is ... how can it be made interesting and engaging? Perhaps a good model to follow i...
