Re: News & Developments: Prospect

Finally someone has cottoned on in Adelaide that if the arterial roads can be made more pleasant with decent landscaping and planning, then investment and commerce will follow. Ironic, because about 20 years ago, MN Rd in this area had carpet roses planted on the median strip, but it all became too ...

Agree. The panels are neither "golden" or stunning. More like a faded yellow as previously noted. Interesting effect yes, but as usual nowhere near what the renders promised. So far, despite his building being a bit more interesting than most is is a bit underwhelming.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

The problem is, I don't think the trams are popular amongst liberal OR labor voters. The general population outside of those that use the CBD really don't get it and see the teams as a wasteful folly. the other issue is, as has been noted - the DPTI is woeful at costing and implemtation of the most...

Re: News & Discussion: Squares and Parklands

All well and good for these grand plans...but, the usual complaint from me-..for God sake, core the lawn, fertilise the lawn and water the lawn....it was mostly a dead dustbowl by the end of weekend 1 of the Fringe.

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

There was an outcry at the time about the money being spent in the wrong place, because it was not, at the time, the biggest bottleneck, but the Commonwealth Govt said if the money was not spent there, it would not be given. Having it there, now, is convenient, for sure. The Commonwealth was desper...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

What is interesting now with hindsight is how good a decision is was to do the superway when they did. The Superway was one of those panicked infrastructure decisions as a result of the GFC. It was constructed on the least congested part of South road, along a path of least resistance and over engi...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

The responsibility for planning the route and construction rests with the state government. Federal governments of BOTH persuasions have been begging to throw money at this for years, via infrastructure Australia, and then various pork barrel excercises. The fact that even the final route or method ...

Pity the glass factory could not have been "incentivised" to move out to Wingfield. I imagine the cost to move the plant though would be astronomical.

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

replanting it with native vegetation would be better for the local ecosystem anyway Agree, however I was just pointing out the irony of replacing trees with a solar plant, when the whole idea of these solar plants is to reduce co2 in the atmosphere, a task the trees were doing naturally anyway. If ...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

So now we are proposing to cut down trees, which absorb co2 and cool the surrounding air, in order to put in a solar farm, which will act as a heat island increasing local temperature, in order to help prevent co2 being generated elsewhere in the generation system to cool the atmosphere elsewhere? ...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

Would is save money and ensure the more lanes if they tunnelled 3 lanes in one direction and 3 lanes on the surface in the other? So, have northbound traffic underground and southbound on ground level? No. Because to have even a one way expressway on the surface would still require separation from ...

Re: News & Discussion: Laneway & Streetscape Projects

A couple of things regarding the article on Hindley Street. 1. a push to make it one way after an "incident with a pedestrian"....well lets make all CBD streets one way then because some drunk walked in front of a car.... seriously, this is the slowest, most congested street in the CBD. Making it on...
