Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide

I can assure you I know what a European hypermarket is, and can confirm, having lived in Dale Street Port Adelaide in the early 90’s this is exactly how this complex was marketed. “ Australia’s first hypermarket”.

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

The transport department CEO thinks the Spanish would be shocked by the winding nature of the track??!! Oh ok, so a foreign company is prepared to ask a foreign government for funds to run a trial in little old SA, and that’s the best our transport boffins can say? Like the Spanish don’t have mounta...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Incl. 115m Tower | $800 million

Subject to adequate space, the Festival site would be a good location. Not withstanding, the ultimate home for a concert hall would be adjoining the rear of a respectfully re-purposed Government House, with a beautiful footbridge over KWS to the Festival Plaza. Remove sections of the walls and fenc...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Incl. 115m Tower | $800 million

To be honest, when I first saw the current configuration I actually thought it was an amphitheatre type outdoor event space... And they actually should turn it into one when they get rid of the ramps... That's what I presumed its intention was too. I do quite often see people sitting on the tiers l...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Much needed for Woodlands Park. Jayne Stinson advocated for an upgrade. Although, I'd prefer total demolition with Edwardstown moved into a trench beneath Raglan Avenue to better serve Castle Plaza, especially as the changeover station for Seaford to Flinders services. Could not agree more. Yet mor...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Incl. 115m Tower | $800 million

IMO the new building has activated what was a wasteland of old concrete and faded "sculptures" - that time has passed. It was only a wasteland because they'd probably spent about $10 in maintenance over decades, and an ill-advised intervention which marooned it on an island. It was a wast...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

And how was the concept of closing Clapham, Hawthorn, and Milswood received in the 1990s when the line to Belair became single line operation? Was it met with roses being planted on parliment house, and celebrations? Stations on that line were poorly patronised- and although there was some angst fr...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I just struggle to understand the fascination with the idea of a tram to the airport though, diddly bopping down Henley beach road in a tram crammed with suitcases sounds horrible. I've used the tram in Portland to get to and from PDX, and it works fine. Just have the trams with a different interna...

Re: Sir Donald Bradman Drv / Marion Rd Upgrade

I don't really see how they could bin this upgrade. If the NSM tunnel is going ahead, and we're being told it still is, this intersection needs to be upgraded well in advance to deal with the significant increase in traffic it will see during construction (bearing in mind it's barely functional for...

Re: Sir Donald Bradman Drv / Marion Rd Upgrade

Hmm, I can think of a very easy way to save $15bn in funding. Scrap the N-S Motorway. So they want to cut back on infrastructure? Infrastructure that's badly needed yesterday? But they wont cut back migration which will create an even worse situation. We don't have enough housing. We don't have emp...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I believe at this stage there are feasibility studies being undertaken for the long-term plans for the OH and Grange lines but most, if not all, options involve either battery or hydrogen technology with potential electrification of only small sections of the line to allow for battery recharging. I...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

The population of the Mount Barker district is around 40k. The population of Adelaide is 1.4 million. In most other states, indeed in many similar situations in the world this type of setup would be connected by a relatively rapid and frequent train. In the case of Europe this may look like a light ...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

I really think the relevant authorities in SA are deliberately overcomplicating this, so they don't have to deal with it. The old bluebirds used to do this trip in under 50 minutes. Surely a modern V/locity type train could do this in at least that amount of time. If a European company want to provi...
