Re: News & Discussion: Trams

It was madness to promise it at $37m let alone now at $117m.

Anyone know if they used recycled red bricks of the era (ie early-mid 1900s) to look more authentic? Or if they salvaged & re-used the actual red bricks from the building there previously (Balfours etc).

Did they ever actually disclose the reason for cancelling it? If so, was it not enough sales or couldn’t get the bank financing? While I agree with your points/frustration etc If this is the case what could they realistically do? Also as the banks are making it far harder for apartment developers to...

At the very least they should commission an artist to do something like they have done at Bowden or an artist that has done one of the many Silos in regional Australia. Or as the developer is Flagship (part owner Kerry Stokes - Chairman of Channel 7) we could suggest they do a massive LED screen lik...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

It says it will save about 3 hrs travelling time to Uluru so maybe they will reduce flights then to Alice Springs?

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Hi Norman, I'm only reporting on what was said/the outcome of the modelling and would love a tram to North Adelaide and beyond. I guess even on your numbers 37% is the minority. Also from March 18 In daily - Before the election, the Liberals released a transport policy, saying trams are “not viable,...

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Service & Policy

A forgotten point is it was the MAC [The Motor Accident Commission] Footy Express which helped sponsor/subsidise the cost. Now that the Labour Govt has sold off/privatised The MAC, well.....?

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Ha! Good comment. I think a few years ago the business case model didn't stack for a North Adelaide extension. I think it said the majority of residents are wealthy/own cars and don't/won't use public transport. Further there was limited reason for those that use PT to actually travel there. I think...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

I expect North Adelaide or the city loop (or ideally both) to be the next route. There’s a rumour an international hotel group is looking at part of the 88 O’Connell St site, so it would be good to co-incide with anything finally built there. I estimate the earliest completion would be 2021/2022.

Probably yes and also they needed to go deeper where say the train line was to allow the max height needed for trucks to pass on the road at grade and also under the bridges/crossings across the motorway trench.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

ML69, thanks for your input. Can I ask are cars/trucks etc still Mitsubishi’s main product/biggest income earner as I know they make other things like air-cond’s etc? Also it may be controversial but are the cars now being made overseas better and cheaper to make than when they were made here (be it...

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

Possibly it’s the original buildings footprint & structural columns etc that limit the design of the fit out etc.
