And wow - the scale of it - shows how cigarettes and petrol are immune to the economy so no worries there for them!

[COM] Re: SAHMRI Stage 2
I do think Adelaide should be one of those destinations - but for a $200M facility where the proton beam (in a massive bunker under it) will cost probably best part of $100M of that sum, with expected "savings" of $2M per year - doesn't seem the best use of limited funds. I'm trying to say...

[COM] Re: SAHMRI Stage 2
According to the news though - Australia sends x10 patients to USA per year at $200k each - so costs $2M p.a. This doesn't sound like a high demand for investing such significant amounts of $$ to build one in SA. Don't get me wrong - I think SAHMRI 2 has merit, but would like to think our Government...

Perhaps this is the brain-child of Rod Hook and his Sky Rail concept
Travel at 100km/hr (apparently) - wouldn't take long but you would leave your teeth back at the station with that acceleration!

Re: SA - Nuclear Future
It is all interesting stuff thinking about how to financially manage the risk. Reinforces to me though that no-one knows what may happen pretty much beyond 100 years - in engineering, designing for that length of life is highly unusual with your every-day infrastructure - but designing for 100,000yr...

Re: Port Adelaide | Developments & News
Agree one building doesn't regenerate the port - but let's be positive - 500 new workers moving into a decent looking building goes a long way to win-win I should think. Should stimulate some small businesses, improve confidence for additional developments etc. And in a rare move (if you ignore thos...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
And those last two posts highlight the entire problem with our current system - throw me money or I won't vote for you! All parties (state and federal) need a kick up the bum and start doing some evidence based decision making when throwing around these billions of dollars that are effectively borro...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
I was told the other day that Melbourne's trams only generate one third of their own revenue from ticket sales - the other two thirds comes from the government as part of a performance payment to meet certain KPI's. It's a good point - great to roll these out, but ensure they factor in the ongoing o...

Re: SA - Nuclear Future
I don't think knowingly - but you raise a good point in this debate that I had forgotten and doesn't get spoken about much - the fact that we have had atomic explosions released in our State and there are not many places on this planet that share this rather unsavoury distinction. And yet, we contin...

Re: #Official Defence Thread
If I was a betting man (and I'm not - but happy to launch the odd opinion) - I would say the announcement of 12 submarines makes it inevitable that these will be built in Australia, and that it will be certain to be "centred" around Adelaide - the timeframes, complexities and fact that 12 ...

Totally agree - think one-way network in Adelaide would work brilliantly and then we can get some exciting developments in converting alternative streets into public realm spaces - I'll vote for that!

Re: infrastructure naming
I agree - core infrastructure does not make a very good memorial. Perhaps I'm too much of an engineer type - but I think bridges should simply have functional names that work for the real purpose - asset maintenance. Much like we are now trying to provide generic "M" and "A" clas...

Air Apartments seem to sell pretty easily - I imagine these will too - even with that "wonderful architecture" - think the developer has won that battle with the architect!

Agree - wise words and cannot fault that regarding leadership v management. Guess I just hold the view that this issue isn't the current priority for our leaders to progress. I couldn't find the thread just now - but a while back someone was asking for people's top priorities to kick start the State...
