You seem surprised Pikey? Considering the developer and his previous efforts in Adelaide, the budget compared to the scale of the development and as rev mentioned, the renders, I'm not sure how anyone could have pinned hope on this being anything half decent.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I'm just curious why they didn't design the line straighter to finish up in front of the medical centre & hospital? All I can think is with the bend it gives the potential to extend the line to the Flinders Uni. but with the gradient of the slope I think it would be almost impossible, right? Becaus...

[U/C] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

Also, at this juncture, I'd like to repeat my suggestion that if this deal ultimately falls over, this remains the best place for a contemporary art gallery (à la Centre Pompidou) now that the ORAH site is otherwise obligated. The combination of the festival centre and contemporary gallery would be...

[APP] Re: Former LeCornu Redevelopment | Mixed Use

I have heard a rumour that Maras has been chosen [or is at least the front runner] to develop this site. That would be f**king right. Maras was the reason that Bob Wallis from Wallis Cinemas couldn't never anything going on this site, and why Makris struggled in the early days of owning the site to...

Bowden is a good current local example of reusing buildings.

Shed 26 is now a missed opportunity. The development, for its own sake, has lost a unique marketing point.
Apparently buildings made predominately out of metal don't hold as much historic merit as those made from bricks and mortar.

Re: News & Discussion: Squares and Parklands

A necessary upgrade! However I find it a little ironic that the the ACC haven't found the funds to complete the remainder of the Victoria Square masterplan (a square that is literally the heart of the CBD) but meanwhile are moving forward to spend $20m on Whitmore Square.... Why not further fund upg...

This might very well be the first time I have ever said this, but despite this being bland and relatively crap design, I'll just be glad to see the building currently on this site go. When I lived in Gilles Street a couple of years ago, I would always walk past it every day and wish it weren't there...

[VIS] Re: Memorial Drive upgrade

The Advertiser has been told the construction cost of the Memorial Drv option, at a seating capacity of about 15,000 people, has been estimated at $250 million. The railyards option is put at $700 million, because it has a greater capacity and a retractable grass soccer pitch. I think the most feas...

We say this a lot but really this is a prime spot for a much taller building as the latest render in context shows. I sometimes wonder if we were more strict on having setbacks whether that would influence taller /more interesting designs. Planning Commission: "You have to build a taller building o...

Re: News & Discussion: Squares and Parklands

If only we had stuck to the earlier O-Bahn tunnel plan, removing Rundle Rd in favour of a new road connecting with Grenfell St — we could have had a much grander combined Rundle/Rymill Park. I agree and the opposition to the original proposal ended up working against those opposing it, because the ...
