Is is true that any station at which the tram-train needed to stop would have needed to be modified to have a platform at a lower height to suit boarding the tram-train?
Generally yes.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

I would suggest two factors in the abandonment. One of the drivers for the tram/train was to service Football Park at West Lakes. This was removed by the Adelaide Oval redevelopment initiated in 2010. The second factor was the need for gauge conversion. As this would have involved the entire AdMet ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Without dredging up an old circular argument, does anyone here know the actual reason the original coast to coast concept including dual voltage tram/train element on the OH line was canned? I thought I read it got canned because the technology for dual voltage trams was not feasible, and it became...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

Just hearing that another wall has broken on the Darlington Road works this afternoon. Having been through the trench since then, there doesn't seem to be any obvious signs of a recent collapse. However there is extensive remedial work going on between Flinders Dr and Sturt Rd on the eastern wall w...

And it’s still not open.... 5am Saturday morning... 🤦‍♂️ The DPTI flyer https://dpti.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/571731/Darlington_Traffic_Switch_July_2019_PDF.pdf has the heading " Major traffic switch 20–22 July " and contains the statement The Darlington Upgrade Project is being constr...

What is the source? Is this a DPTI press release or is it a news story?
What is it with you and sources?
When a quote appears in a post, is it not a reasonable question to ask where it comes from? Most posters do give a link or other indication of where quotes come from.

[PRO] Re: Port Adelaide Dock Spur Line

The National Railway Museum, which ripped out tracks in anticipation of a new rail spur in to the heart of Port Adelaide, will still receive $60,000 in compensation from the State Government despite its decision to shelve the project. Museum chairman David Burnett and executive officer Bob Sampson ...

A 220m section of shoddy concrete between two pieces that dramatically dropped off the South Rd Darlington Upgrade will be totally replaced, possibly as soon as today. The State Government has confirmed that works will start this week, weather permitting, to take down the existing shotcrete between...

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Service & Policy

Just saying, but the London Underground remains government-owned and run. I just can't see this latest Marshall and Knoll initiative working in the long run. I don't think it will work either, we are to small. What will be interesting is if the new operations can bring some of the user experiences ...

Interesting that LeFevre Peninsula and light rail and merit all appear in the same sentence. Is there a glimmer of hope there? Not with a Liberal Government. Sorry. I guess that massive 6kms of tram over 16 years gives you hope with the other mob.[emoji1787] Full credit to Labor, they knew how to k...

Why did developers (and the government enable) this residential development? We should only be building high density around existing railway stations. This is why we can't have high quality public transport in Adelaide. It's not clear which residential development you are referring to? Port Dock? G...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

The Port Adelaide-Dry Creek railways will soon be disused because there is a new railway being built over the salt flats. I think if we have a Port Adelaide tram, we could continue the tram along the Port Adelaide-Dry Creek alignment. Then at Dry Creek, continue on the old Northfield alignment. A s...

Perhaps an interesting consideration for the Hove Crossing upgrade would be to continue the cutting through to Jetty Road and relocate/grade separate Brighton station to be closer to Brighton Beach and the Jetty Road cafes. I'm guessing Hove Crossing will likely close the Adelaide-Warradale section...

The nitty gritty needs to come out and all has to be fully transparent. If a contract was signed how can this Govt terminate it? Who costed the project at $16m and what has now caused it to blow out 250%? Is the company that was awarded the contract now getting paid out [obviously a reduced amount]...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Cross Road, Hawthorn is probably among the worst ones you've listed. If we're talking about creating a better corridor between the S/E Freeway and the N/S corridor then I would suggest sending Cross Road above the tramline and both intersections nearby. Train line at Hawthorn? The tramline at Cross...
