Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

In total, it's quite an impressive list of hotel brands coming to Adelaide in the next coming years... So what are we up to now: UC: Sofitel -- Currie Street Crowne Plaza -- Frome Street Hotel Indigo -- Market Street Casino -- Railway Station Potentially happening: Adelaide Oval Westin -- GPO Park ...

Assuming the TRYP branding on the renders imply that they have a hotel chain committed.

43.5m tall and a fair bit less controversial than the Pirie Street proposal.

Are the plans online yet? I couldn't see them on the SCAP site.
yep, are online.

Personally, I think this looks pretty awful, maybe due to the essentially blank North/South walls.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

(and that doesn't even require going for the more compact formats you can find in some European cities) I love the self serve express coles/woolies/independents in Melbourne (I assume they have them north of the border too) although I'm not sure if Aldi has a comparable format anywhere in Aus. Even...

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

I think there would be a lack of suitable space in the CBD for an Aldi. They are more suburban in nature, I don't think any of the other CBDs in Australia have one. Melbourne does. Canberra does as well If you have a regular Coles or Woolworths in the CBD, then you can have an Aldi as well (and tha...

There are 2 Coles stores in the city. The Central Market one should be converted into IGA.
An Aldi would be better....

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

:wallbash: ? What's wrong with this idea? Sure, it might bring more cars into the city, but until private vehicles are matched with adequate/reliable public transport, I don't think we can expect people to go without. And this is coming from someone who rides a bike, rides on PT and wants to see an...

The agents lies are now coming back to bite them. I was at a sales launch last year where prospective buyers were told their eastern views could not be blocked out as it was all heritage buildings to the east of Pulteney. As it was a large group I didn't say anything, but just this week a large pro...

To be honest, I hope this one doesn't happen. Adelaide finally gets a new tallest (sad but true, something we will be judged by) and we get a student accom building built just metres away. For hotel guests and apartment owners facing North, they'll be looking straight at this thing.... built right ...

Re: News & Discussion : New Restaurants, Bars & Night Clubs

So the renovated Whitmore hotel opened as Sparkke at the Whitmore, and according to the Advertiser: "The 636-seat pub features a microbrewery"

Can this be right (or is that an Advertiser typo...) ? Having more than 600 seats sounds like a ridicoulous amount of space in that location

From the report: "The precast will be finished in a Nawkaw product ensuring that its visual appearance is durable and requires no maintenance."

What is Nawkaw?

That's interesting, which floor/aspect/why that building? If the gym/pool etc are part of the hotel do you get automatic access? or do you have to pay? To get access does that mean you have to use 2 lifts? can you access your apartment lifts via the lobby of the hotel? or forced to use a "residence...
