Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

Personally, I wish we could’ve done like Spain and got in early on that Concentrated Solar Power technology. IIRC, the CSIRO have made quite a lot of discoveries with it, but nobody seems to want to get involved with it. There also seems to be quite a bit going on with Geothermal as of recently that...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

I just feel kind of uneasy about running 100% on a form of generation that completely relies on perfect weather to operate efficiently. It also doesn’t help that quite a few people I’ve spoken to about this (not on here) act as if this is intermittency is some kind of advantage and go on about reall...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

I don’t get what’s so bad about literally just legalising it? No one says as soon as it’s legal that we’re mandated to build any, it’s literally just changing a political decision made nearly 30 years ago

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

If we’re going to take the stance of banning things solely because they cost too much, then maybe we should outlaw pumped hydro as well? Maybe expand the scope a little further and ban rail transport as well because the Inland Rail project went way over budget?

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

Given that private industry isn't even remotely interested unless there's heavy taxpayer subsidy, and that the history of major projects over the past 15 years is deplorable, you'd think it would be political suicide. That's not even considering the NIMBY vote. The best option would be to quietly d...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

Is there actually enough Lithium in the world for civilisation to become reliant on battery storage? I mean, there’s a lot of it, but it certainly doesn’t seem as plentiful as oil, coal or gas? Not to mention the low energy density meaning you have to build literal fields of them to store any meanin...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

lol, do people not realise that approving one parties policy does not automatically bind you to that party? Like, it is actually possible to not be aligned with a political party and still approve of some of their policies

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

It is grating, isn't it. I'm happy to dial it to whatever the poster I've replied to has set it. In this case it was abc, who got a serve of his own medicine. As for the smug part, I have to admit there's almost no way to avoid sounding condescending sometimes. However, I am happy to take advice. A...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

You missed the part where we have a National Energy Market. You missed the part where generation is only part of the bill. You missed the part where it's now no longer 1950, and Sir Thomas Playford controlled energy prices through government ownership of ETSA. Remind me. Who was it that dismantled ...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

Your bill is high, but apparently high gas prices and decrepit coal plants with huge repair bills have nothing to do with it? Right. Considering it pretty much started kicking off around the time we started replacing power stations with wind/solar farms, then yeah, most probably Also, if it’s all c...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

There's not the slightest shred of evidence that this is true. Pure imagination that would put Walt Disney to shame. Meanwhile, in the real world, nobody is investing in coal unless government guarantees are involved. lol, I don’t need to imagine it, all I gotta do is look at my power bill and it’s...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

You cant trust News Corp articles on nuclear power.....they are just like press releases from the Nuclear Fuel Producers Association. They never have any costings.......they never mention the build timeline......they never mention the price of the power when the plant finally opens. The US just rec...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

Origin Energy has made a half yearly profit of $747 million, up from $44 million last year. Origin alone have 77,000 customers in hardship, that is on plans to pay off their bill. Three quarters of a billion in half a year PROFIT. And that's just one energy retailer. Tell us again how remewables an...
