Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

If a Monarto Airport ever, ahem, "took off", and assuming the proposals of an intercity fast train project went ahead (corridor would also replace the current freight line) aligned to SEF with trains to Murray Bridge in an estimated 30-45min, could a Monarto Airport for freight AND passengers repla...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

All of the privatised airports are obliged to make "ex gratia" payments in lieu of rates and land tax. This isn't usually problematic, but occasionally has been the subject of dispute - most notably at Launceston Airport . In that case, an independent valuer was brought in to determine a reasonable...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

Is the airport paying the council rates now? Years ago, there was a stoush because the airport wasn't paying any rates. The airport is on Commonwealth land, and Commonwealth land typically doesn't pay rates to the local council. However, as part of the lease agreement between the federal government ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses

Never noticed this before because I’m rarely on North Terrace at night, but last week Monday night I noticed the 174 bus to Paradise do a hook turn at the KWS/North Tce intersection turning right onto North Tce. It makes sense with the tram tracks there, but it’s an odd thing for Adelaide. Are ther...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Just for this week, I've been counting passenger numbers on select services along the Gawler line during morning and evening peak periods. Here are some key thoughts: - Electrification will make a massive difference by speeding up the service. - Some stations definitely need to be culled. Kudla is ...

The point was that it would be cheap to construct since the path is already there. It only needs to be single track because it will be low frequency. It could replace the bus service to those towns.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses

When you call an on demand bus, it takes a while to arrive at your doorstep. Then it needs to go to everyone else's doorstep. In that time, you could have walked to a main road, got a fixed route bus and got to your destination.

A branch line from the Seaford to Willunga via McLaren Vale should be highly considered too. Imagine posters at Adelaide Railway Station showing vineyards with a purple 4000 train Why isn't this given priority over Aldinga? Seaford Railway Station is literally on the same alignment as the old Willu...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

I'm not sure what is still being used at Islington Works, nor who owns it. A possibility might be to build the tram all the way up O'COnnell Street and Prospect Road to Regency Road, then down to an interchange at a revamped Islington Station, then follow the unused access track under the bridge an...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

A new station should be set up under the Grand Junction Bridge, this will allow passengers to travel between Port Adelaide and the northern suburbs, also the G10 and 235 could be extended to the station. There used to be passenger train services between Dry Creek and Port Adelaide using the Rosewat...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Why do we bother with different stopping patterns on the Gawler line? In my opinion, all trains should be all stops, including North Adelaide. Let's see why. All stops trains, including North Adelaide, take 56 minutes to travel from Gawler to Adelaide. During the day, most trains follow one of two s...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses

The trick to getting timetables sychronised is to forget about timetables. Trains should come every five minutes on the Gawler, Seaford and Outer Harbor lines. Then the bus timetable won't matter, the trains will always be frequent enough to connect. To do that would either require building and man...

[U/C] Re: Oaklands Crossing | $174m

Norman said Why? There's a perfectly good shopping centre only a few hundred metres away. The revenue the government makes from the sale of the land above the station can go back into things like station parking, station facilities, fully undercover bus interchange. Add apartments above station too...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses

I'm supportive of the idea of encouraging mode change in the northern suburbs. Public transport in Adelaide isn't the 'worst in the world'. But it does need to be made more viable in outer city areas. However, mode change will only be a viable option if it is made easy. From what I can speak of fro...
