[VIS] Re: Interstate Trains at Adelaide Railway Station

A few things that has me puzzled about the service, why do you need to be there 1hr to 30mins before departing. In Europe you show up, 5 min before departing and you are on. People turn up late for check in at airports, who's to say the same thing doesn't happen for trains? "Well sir/madam we do re...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

everything was drip fed to us. There is an up-side to being drip-fed. It should lower the risk by breaking the project up into more manageable sections. DPTI is getting experienced at executing billion dollar upgrades now, but imagine if the first substantial project (superway) was a $5 billion dol...

Darlington Upgrade Project Newsletter September 2019 https://dpti.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/583999/Darlington_Upgrade_September_2019_newsletter.pdf Happy to hear the Ayliffes Road bridge will (hopefully) be opening this year! On an unrelated note, will the remedial works (landscaping, f...

Re: Commonwealth Games in Adelaide

I’d say the roadworks for the North-South motorway need to be finished between T2T and Anzac Highway (the crossing points between the airport and the city/games venues) before the games, too. I wouldn't count the cost of building that as part of the cost of hosting the games, either. The Cross Road...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses

the Citadis trams now all have the common red front/ blue border presentation. It's really only the older buses and Flexity trams still with a yellow front. The Citadis liveries aren’t even our own, they weren’t repainted when we purchased them from the Madrid Metro. I think differentiating the mod...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

We knew that the Libs weren't going to send trams beyond the parklands, but now they've also abandoned their CBD trams election promise (North Adelaide + City Loop)... Whoops! What?? When was this confirmed, or is it your speculation? The North Adelaide and City Loop trams were part of their electi...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Geez with all this new development in North Adelaide, a tram up O'Connell just makes sense. Getting it done before all these places-to-go open up will make the sites more appealing to develop and to travel to. The Adelaide Oval Hotel and long-awaited development on the old LeCornu North Adelaide sit...

[APP] Re: SAHMRI Stage 2

IMO it would have been really neat if SAHMRI was built as one big massive iconic building instead of 2 smaller buildings. Could have been a really nice landmark. I think it’s less visually imposing to have two separate buildings, plus size-wise it fits better with the surrounding buildings. Also op...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Spotto, it used to be that Platform 1 was towards the City and Platform 2 away from the City. But when they installed the new train control system, the numbering was changed to whether its northbound or southbound rather than whether it's Citybound. So you’re saying that every Platform 1 is northbo...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I feel like I've already asked this but I can't find it anywhere on the forum search. How come the platform numbers in Adelaide are the wrong way around (i.e. why does Platform 1 face away from the city)? In other Australian (and most international) cities at your typical two-platform stations, the ...

[PRO] Re: 10 Anzac Highway | Kaufland Supermarket

Stupid question here. I know the Chrysler brick signs on Leader and Maple are going to be preserved and relocated, is the black Chrysler facade on ANZAC Hwy being retained too? I’m doubtful but it would certainly be a unique interior feature.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Gauge conversion is not as difficult as it's made out to be. The rolling stock is easy to gauge convert. It only took two weeks to convert the Adelaide-Melbourne railway. Adelaide Metro has one fifth the track, plus the sleepers are ready to go. I reckon the Adelaide Metro network could be converte...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Not 100% convinced yet about train-trams but still an interesting example of such a system is the Sheffield Supertram in the UK. Since 2018 they’ve been running upgraded stock on a small section of the National Rail network between Meadowhall South and Rotherham. The rest of the network is on normal...

Here's the map that I've drawn about a possible route for a freeway connection (in green) between North-South Motorway and South East Freeway, along with a possible rail alignment (in blue) through the Adelaide Hills. The underground sections are represented by broken lines. Your railway looks much...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses

More bus-train interchanges would be ideal. On the Gawler Line for example, an interchange at Islington could absorb a majority of citybound passengers on Churchill Road and Main North Road buses. Passengers continue into town via more epace-efficient trains, while that now-empty bus goes back out a...
