Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Noticed this morning the line from North Terrace to Festival Plaza tram stop is currently closed and undergoing maintenance/repair. Does anyone know what the nature of the work is? It's always closed on weekdays. I saw them install a drainage tank and some access covers. Just some minor improvement...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

It’s an outsourcing arrangement. “Privatising”, while technically true, is a bit misleading. For example, with made up figures - The government puts out to tender the operations of the network, subject to some pretty detailed specifications and KPIs, the winning bidder says e.g they will do it for ...

Globelink has been abandoned

Along with that other brain fart, the North Terrace right turn, let them rest in peace.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Considering most people don't actually have to go to the city but suburb to suburb I think it'll be wise to look at suburban tram lines. For example: 1) Gawler to Gawler Central Line via 19th Street, Adelaide Road, Murray Street. *Possible extension to Willaston pub. What would trams do on that rou...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

It's about people thinking they're more entitled to a service because they travel further. What we need is a higher frequency service so people use it, express services will cause longer wait times, especially services that express a lot of stations. A minimum 15 minute service is needed during the...

Haven't been past in a while but has the landscaping at the Botanic gardens and festival theatre stops finally been done ?

Not much happening at the stops themselves.

The works nearby are still going.

OMG !.......flogging a dead horse......when will the economic reality of the Overland service sink in with some people.... It will eventually die........and the few remaining will passengers will use buses in South Australia, and in Victoria buses to the nearest V-Line train station. On a train lik...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Why are single rail cars "bad"? As I said above: I feel that the single cars come at the expense of making the service look like a second-rate afterthought. It projects a fairly low-rent image of the services on these lines and I doubt does anything improve the attraction of public transport to pot...

I'm not sure what the reason is for quite different layout of the two graphs. Combining them into a single sorted list looks like it becomes: Delhi Ho Chi Minh City Launceston Phuket Tokyo Christchurch Manila Townsville etc So from the previous question about whether India is worthwhile, there seem...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

According to DPTI website The electrification of Gawler Line is due in late 2020, isn't that slow compared to when poles and wires went up on Seaford and Tonsley Lines. And then we aren't due to have the first electric set until mid 2021. Sounds like the current State Government is dragging it out ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Labor will announce this weekend that they will take back any tram or train services that are outsourced by the Liberals if they are elected at the 2022 state election. I believe the option of taking back the bus contracts will be explored too. Good news for those of us who have concluded that ther...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Long-term vision is a good thing, but that does not mean it needs to be acted on from the word go. Of course some projects have to be done short term. However the way I see it if you have a vision look for the long term and build what you can with the money you have. A sports arena is a good exampl...

Just on our rolled-gold Botanic Garden extension, the planted medians have already become overgrown with metre-high thistles. Are you complaining about the National Flower of Scotland? Seriously though. In Europe, this would only be concrete if buses were to use the track as well, OR if the track w...
