[COM] Re: 231-243 Waymouth Street | 55m | 17lvls | Student Accom

The drab student accommodations are replacing previously drab buildings with the advantage of extra height and density. I don't actually mind this building but have to disagree with the sentiment. Obviously the ultimate would be to bulldoze the drab old building and replace it with something that a...

The Ringturm in Vienna is one of the best examples I have seen of an average looking building that has been transformed in to something pretty unique and quirky. Hopefully they can salvage something from this poor design and come up with something similar.

[COM] Re: Adelaide Convention Centre - Stage 3 | $350m

Fun fact: The Aluminium cladding on the Riverside Centre was originally going to be salmon pink to match the Hyatt, but due to an purchasing error it turned out to be silver, however by that time it was easier to use the current panels instead of replacing them. Considering that, I'd say we're actu...

Such a travesty that this is the quality of design that is replacing the Gerrard and Goodman building. The larger of the two buildings is nice, but I couldn't agree more about the student accommodation. Looks cheap and nasty and does nothing to complement its surroundings. A real missed opportunity.

Didn't get a photo, but this looked terrific all lit up when viewed from the Morphett Street Bridge last night. A great addition to that part of the CBD.

I notice that the next-door cottage and land behind it up to Wright Court is also on the market. I wonder why they wouldn't purchase both sites and perhaps do something (presumably) more adventurous architecturally, and maybe use the land behind that leads to Wright Court as access for underground ...

The moment it was built it had the same "time stamp" as the Black stump on Grenfell street. I thought exactly the same thing when I drove past this one the other day. Even though it was built in the 70s the Black Stump looks a lot less dated than pretty much any other building that was built in Ade...

[U/C] Re: Frome Central | Retail/Hotel/Student | Towers:134/75m &

While sad, the G&G building had been chopped in half and left to fester. It was a ruin. Yeah, but I still think it could have easily been restored and incorporated as part of a new development. It would be a lot less disappointing to see it go if the current proposal wasn't so average. At least the...

You think? I drove past and thought the opposite. I didn't particularly like the renders, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw how it is looking so far. Certainly seems like it is going to be a much nicer looking building that Vision.

It's not amazing but we've seen worse. After the issues with the Adelaide Uni medical building I'll just be curious to see if it looks like the render. I actually think the UoA medical building looks a lot better than the render. Was never a huge fan of the original proposal but quite like how it h...

The student accommodation building is quite the unsightly beast. And it's "Stage 1", which makes me nervous, as a lot can happen to a developer before "stage 2" actually goes ahead, leaving you with an ugly student block and a vacant site. Yep spot on, my concerns exactly. I would have hoped they c...

Yep, very odd. I agree, a development here would be great even though I am not sold on this particular design. If it was a flat out choice between keeping the factory and a new development it wouldn't be a contest- bulldoze it now. It serves little purpose in its current form and it would be pointle...

Plant 4 at Bowden... Looks amazing how they have retro fitted a brick and iron sawtooth into a modern purpose facility. Admittedly this is not topped by a 10 storey tower, but there is no excuse for not incorporating the old brick façade of Wigg into the street front of this re development, even if...

Why is Adelaide so bad at integrating heritage sites with something new and modern? Here we have the perfect opportunity and they propose this crap. I feel like I have been transported to the Soviet bloc in the mid 60s. Can you point to any examples of heritage buildings that have been integrated p...
