[U/C] Re: [SWP] Re: Adelaidean | 11 Frome Street | 135m | 37 Levels | Mixed Use | New tallest

Am I the only one concerned about how this could end up? Seeing what Kyren have done with Dwell, and their marked change and “dumbing down” of that design, I’m not holding out hope here. For example if the facade is highly translucent with low reflectivity, it will make an already simple design les...

Well noted! My only suggestion would be to set the building back a little, otherwise the facade gets washed away in the building above (a bit like the Quest on KWS). I'm ambivalent towards the Quest KWS integration. It doesn't look terrible or anything but by the same token you could walk past it 1...

Surely that existing building is not heritage listed? Why would they keep that façade? Cos it's a cool facade! No you're right it probably isn't heritage listed, but it is nice to see them showing a bit more creativity and not just mindlessly demolishing what is a pretty nice art deco building. I t...

This development doesn't look that dissimilar to the GPO. It is a slightly better design for sure, but even so I don't really understand how one can be so universally loved and the other despised.

Glad they are retaining and upgrading the existing hotel. There was plenty of speculation that they would demolish it which would have set a really bad precedent (mind you plenty of that speculation was fueled by Rachel Sanderson so I guess it was always fairly dubious). Looking forward to seeing th...

Thanks for the pics. Fits in pretty well and turned out a lot better than I thought it would.

Makes sense to get on and bulldoze the Napier rather than spending years in a doomed building. Wouldn't think the uni would have too much trouble rescheduling lectures across the campus during the construction phase.

Thanks for the update Nathan. Was wondering what the light show was all about. It was quite striking when driving down the Southern Expressway last night.

This was approved yesterday.
You've got to be kidding me. There are some pretty average developments around the place (plenty of good ones as well), but this is in a league of its own. It will be made to look even more ridiculous sandwhiched between those two tiny cottages.

I think it looks a lot better viewed from West Terrace than it does form Light Square. It is definitely a big step up from that awful Uni Lodge building near the corner of Waymouth and West Terrace.

I actually like this tbh. Nice simple design, which hides that hideous multi-storey carpark from the east. I agree, turned out better than expected. Simple, dark glass buildings have worked a lot better across the Adelaide cbd and generally date much better. Just not a fan of the prison bar windows...

The drab student accommodations are replacing previously drab buildings with the advantage of extra height and density. I don't actually mind this building but have to disagree with the sentiment. Obviously the ultimate would be to bulldoze the drab old building and replace it with something that a...

The Ringturm in Vienna is one of the best examples I have seen of an average looking building that has been transformed in to something pretty unique and quirky. Hopefully they can salvage something from this poor design and come up with something similar.

Fun fact: The Aluminium cladding on the Riverside Centre was originally going to be salmon pink to match the Hyatt, but due to an purchasing error it turned out to be silver, however by that time it was easier to use the current panels instead of replacing them. Considering that, I'd say we're actu...

Such a travesty that this is the quality of design that is replacing the Gerrard and Goodman building. The larger of the two buildings is nice, but I couldn't agree more about the student accommodation. Looks cheap and nasty and does nothing to complement its surroundings. A real missed opportunity.
