Re: Is it too late to save the Port?

I think the Birkenhead Bridge is heritage listed, probably because it was the first bascule bridge in Australia.

Yeah, I think 'safety in numbers' will help this area - hopefully city west gets the same treatment.

[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment

Sterling innings chaps... I wonder if the 'National Heritage listing of the parklands would impede naming rights anyway? The MCG is listed and the closest commercial title I could find was the Myer Music Bowl, named for the man not his company.

Re: General Suburban Projects & Discussion

The southern side of Greenhill Rd could use more 6-8 level buildings, especially between the ETSA Building and Unley Rd.

Re: #COM: | Bay Junction | $60m | 3lvls | Retail | Glenelg

From AdelaideNow Work to begin on Glenelg's former Wallis Cinema site "I think it would be good to create more carparks at that end of the street," he said. Glenelg Pet Centre owner Sue Perdikis said the new shops and extra carparking would "help pick up business, especially on the w...

I agree. Remove a few coats of paint and those buildings serve Twin St. better than a bland tall.

Re: New Retail in the CBD

One of the retailers this evening mentioned businesses at that level are being pushed to the west-side of the building - unsure if that's for convenience and security or making way for the offices mentioned.

[COM] Re: #APP: Torrens Footbridge (Festival Centre to Adelaide Ov

To be honest I don't agree with the Wakefield expansion and think regenerated plots should adhere to (modest) uniform headstones. I still see a lot of potential for the west-side... is there a West Terrace thread?

[COM] Re: #APP: Torrens Footbridge (Festival Centre to Adelaide Ov

The residents of Thebarton and St. Peters benifit from having access to the parklands through better lifestyle and higher property values. But they do not need to pay for their upkeep - that burden is on ACC rate payers. Thus the parklands will always be less developed than they deserve given the p...

Re: COM/PRO: Glenelg Ent Complex (Beachhouse & Water World)

I don't know the Glenelg cafe/restaurant culture - have many businesses (i.e. Holdfast Shores) survived away from Jetty Rd.? Just a few hundred metres can make a difference in some areas and (Buffalo) reviews seem pretty poor. The Buffalo seems better suited to the Beachhouse or Wiggly Worms/Little ...

+1 Ken Rollond supported that move recently (InDaily link somewhere) saying if Melbourne can work with the public liability risk so can we. Sorry to go off tangent more than usual but did anyone see the Buffalo news story tonight? Apparently the owners have spent $400k on upgrades since 2008 but tha...

Re: COM/PRO: Glenelg Ent Complex (Beachhouse & Water World)

For me 'tacky' was what made holidays to Glenelg memorable - the old Bay Junction centre, Magic Mountain, a revolving restaurant, Birdman Rally, milk carton regatta, genuine Mexican apartments, red rattlers and HMS Buffalo. By 1990 the kitsch value was as much an experience as the cinema and beach, ...

The SW corner – fondly known locally as the “ Beirut Quarter ” owing to its mix of old worker’s cottages and welfare housing – is singled out in the DPA’s aim to raise the city’s population to 48,000. However, the leafy, well-heeled South East corner – otherwise known as the “ Paris Quarter ” – has...
