Re: News: Adelaide City Council

With the impending mining boom, Adelaide City Council/Government should start creating a vision for the city like they have done in Birmingham in the UK: http://bigcityplan.birmingham.gov.uk/ This talk of Victoria Square and a carousel in Rundle Mall etc is not visionary, it's tunnel vision. I also ...

Re: 5-Year Development Flashbacks

Harsh, but I think the former Le Cornu site on O'Connell Street sums up Adelaide's development for the past five years. The proposal was constantly rejected and when it was approved, nothing was built (except a fence).

Re: Melbourne Boom Rundown

Good point Ben and I know of an Architectural firm in Adelaide doing work for Melbourne.

I'm not sure how the argument of chemical engineers relates to construction though AG.

Re: Melbourne Boom Rundown

Population size isn't a good way of measuring activity - population growth would be a more accurate indicator to gauge activity. Melbourne's annual population growth has been averaging close to 75000 people over the past few years (higher than the 60000 average over the decade to 2010), whereas Ade...

Re: Melbourne Boom Rundown

I also would have to say if I put together a list of what is PROPOSED/Vision, Approved or under construction in Adelaide our list would also be huge. But with a population roughly 4x larger then Adelaide you would expect their construction and development to be on par with that and 4x larger then w...

Re: #U/C: $40m UniSA Mawson Lakes M2 Building and The Plasso

No problems, I will provide some more photos next weekend but for those who are interested nothing beats seeing it in the flesh. The building is having the finishing touches applied and the renders don't do it any justice.

Re: Melbourne Boom Rundown

I will be joining you too soon Rob, this city is moving too slow for my liking, a city where the country folk move to the city and the city folk move interstate! I've given this place a go but I can't wait another 10 years for things to start happening!

Re: Birmingham City Centre

I thought work has already started? I agree, it is the kind of plan Adelaide needs.

There will also be a high speed train link to London at 45 mins, reducing travel times for many brummies I'm sure.....

Thanks for the post. A recent visit to Melbourne and Sydney was interesting. Sydney appeared run down and tired, Melbourne is entering a Renaissance.

Re: Mawson Lakes - Not just another suburb

There is a good reason why there are so many ugly buildings in Mawson Lakes and that's because the design standards set by Delfin were lowered due to slow land sales. The shoddy workmanship can be attributed to the gap in the building industry at the time for developing medium density buildings. Thi...
