[COM] Re: PRO: Victoria Square Upgrade

I know undergrounding will cost millions (see: Bakewell Underpass $41m), but it's the best solution for the future, surely? The best solution for who? Cross-city drivers? The long ramps that a tunnel would need certainly wouldn't make it any easier or attractive for people actually using the area -...

It looks like the offspring of 400KWS facade conjoined with Coglin Street, and inspiration gathered from the podboxes of City Central for the balconies. :sly: I'm sorry, but back to the drawing board please. My exact thoughts. It's all well and good that Samaras has confidence in Adelaide, but goin...

Re: News: Adelaide City Council

Speaking of voting, am I right to think that workers and not just residents can vote in the council elections? That's not quite right, actually. It's just owners and/or occupiers of rateable properties within the municipal boundaries that are eligible to vote. So businesses get a vote, but not your...

patience Mr AtD. No ones allowed in yet, only what we can see through that gap, so we have to wait
True. Though I imagine they'll be through to the left.

Re: New Retail in the CBD

Woolworths, yesterday: http://xaragmata.cable.nu/album/adelaide/cbd/rundle/woolies/slides/IMG_7707.jpg Thanks for the photos Xara. I saw this in person yesterday and I have to say that this redevelopment, when coupled with the Rundle Plaza project directly opposite, is going to make for a rather co...

Re: News: Adelaide City Council

Good on you Clr Plumridge - working to make people appreciate the Park Lands (and an increase community events) is a wise move indeed! Sounds like a win-win situation to me - I hope you get necessary funds without delay :-) Keep us in the loop with progress please. From the city messenger: Learn to...

Re: News: Adelaide City Council

How on earth did it cost nearly half a million dollars in the first place? And now another 100 grand to remove it? To say nothing of the merits of the experiment (and I actually think there are some) that's a tremendous waste of money. Money that could be going to Vic Square, for instance, or the Ma...

Re: New portal launched - #bug reports here

Not a bug report, but the portal has been a bit static since it was launched. Time for an update? Perhaps the highlighted developments could be the Victoria Square regeneration, UrbanNest on North Terrace, Tower 8 on Franklin Street, and something topical like the Adelaide Oval redevelopment or the ...

Out front of Topham Mall on Currie Street, looking down Leigh Street and Bank Street in the distance.

[COM] Re: PRO: Victoria Square Upgrade

Crucial to the design, I believe; King William Street should be restored as the thoroughfare it once was - running directly through the Square. From there, the potential is unlimited. This opens up the opportunity for street frontages to be activated, allowing users to spill out directly onto the s...

Re: Electrification and Resleepering of TransAdelaide Networ

It looks rather colourless, clinical and unfriendly, but it's clean, sheltered and secure -- which is a lot more than you can say about most other stations. I hope there's some sort of opportunity for community art (with a local primary school or something) or at least a few planters.

Just on the fountain: it will be moved to the northern tip of the Square, and the designers propose to remove its basin to encourage 'playful interaction' and 'visual integration' (especially as they desire it to flow through to 'rivers' either side of the lawn).

[COM] Re: PRO: Victoria Square Upgrade

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the brown repreesenatative of covered walkways? If so, will be interesting as to traffic height restrictions across the square. According to the masterplan, the Arbours will continue across the roadway requiring a column free span of 16m and minimum traffic clearance...
