Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

The most surprising thing about those artistic impressions is all the shoppers in upper levels of the Myer Centre!

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

I reckon anyone going from Canberra to Dubai via Adelaide has rocks in their head. Yes, transferring in Sydney is not nice, but the 10-across in economy Emirates 777 would have nothing on the Emirates A380 or Qantas A380 you get ex Sydney. Last night I flew in from Sydney on Qantas and there were p...

[COM] Re: PRO: 27lvl Commercial & Entertainment tower - Festival P

The other issue I have is the use of the site. Hajek Plasa should be enhanced as a public space - look at the success of Barrio for instance. If you built an office building, for ordinary people that space would be lost and couldn't fulfil its potential. If you had to do an office building in the Ri...

[COM] Re: PRO: 27lvl Commercial & Entertainment tower - Festival P

Sorry to be the dissenting voice but an office tower? Really? Here in the heart of the cultural precinct? It would dwarf Parliament House and the Festival Centre. It'd be at the whims of the commercial sector and I bet we'd end up with something tacky like MyBudget or AussieATM (bad examples) plaste...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

The council had the opportunity to be upfront about these higher charges - it's clear they felt they had something to hide by burying them in documents and hoping nobody would notice. If they'd come out and said there'd be a modest increase in fees, after consultation with traders, as part of their ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

Of course, he attacks the media because it would be politically difficult to criticise people like Anne Moran, Theo Maras and all the other stakeholders who came out against the move. I read the articles and saw the TV stories - the council did a terrible job of explaining its position on the parkin...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

The layout is just bizarre now - I can't think of any airport in Australia where the check-in area is on a different level from the methods of transport used to get to the airport. Every passenger departing Adelaide has to use an escalator or lift to get to check-in, unless they park on level two of...

[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment | 53,500 | $545m

Ah yes - the dining and function room for SACA members and the elites. What cost to ordinary taxpayers who'll never step foot inside it?

(I know it's a standard feature of stadiums but I think the government's out of touch when they promote this)

What's it like to live in a modern apartment?

I've been looking at the floor plans for some of the developments proposed around Adelaide - and I'm usually amazed how small the apartments are (the Watson in Walkerville is classic). Having always lived in a house (which is not a McMansion) I'm just wondering how people manage in apartments. Where...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

It's true that Qantas doesn't have any services to feed into in Singapore with this Emirates deal. But nobody is going to fly with Emirates from Adelaide to Northeast and Southeast Asia. I would've thought ADL-Hong Kong would be a good alternative, but again maybe Qantas just doesn't have the partne...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines

As expected Qantas is stopping its Adelaide-Singapore services. Not surprising considering they won't be feeding into London/Frankfurt flights anymore - and who's going to bother with Qantas when Singapore Airlines is 10x weekly? http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/media-releases/feb-2013/5486/...

[CAN] Re: PRO: 123 Flinders Street | 135m | 39lvls | Mixed Use

I'm actually not the biggest fan of the original proposal. If it's going to be 39 levels I'd love to see something sleek and shiny - no tacky glass. But beggars can't be choosers I guess!

Hope that's not the case - I've been on a fairly empty Singapore Airlines flight and they're not slowing down. Maybe it's just a quieter day.

Re: News: Adelaide City Council

It's not bewildering - it's how local government works. People who live in the city also need to have their garbage collected, their streets cleaned, their libraries run and their parks maintained. They deserve a say in how those services are managed or delivered. People outside the city can still i...
