[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

Rail access to Hahndorf actually makes a lot of sense, so long as it is part of a bigger project to connect Mount Barker. The fact is that Hahndorf is a major tourist destination, and the flow of people to and from the town are far in excess of what you would expect considering its relatively small...

The former Ambleside railway station was about 3km from the centre of Hahndorf, so not quite to Hahndorf, but not far off.
Not far off, and a park-and-ride at Ambleside may be good for passengers from Balhannah, Oakbank , Woodside and even Lobethal areas, if the service is fast enough.

Hmmm - Tom im pretty sure that Mt Barker is not within Metropolitan Adelaide
For all intents and purposes, it is, though.

It should be a fast train and should be going to Stirling, Harndorf, Mt Barker, Monarto and Murray Bridge.
There's no way you're going to get a train to Hahndorf mate!

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

One of my earliest concepts with the Gawler line going through the CBD to Unley and onto Millswood. With also new subways running from the northeast to south and southeast. Adelaide Metro System 11 Cheers It is a very nice concept. Unfortunately, if they ever go underground, they'll probably avoid ...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

What's lacking is not just a population - it's a regional population that supports regional cities that aren't just commuter dormitories of Adelaide, nor just large country towns providing local services to the surrounding farms. Mount Gambier, Murray Bridge, Whyalla, Port Lincoln etc have had thei...

Re: Sir Donald Bradman Drv / Marion Rd Upgrade

As others have pointed out, the current bridges were built in the mid 80's. The old bridges were to the south of the current ones and I think that anyone who remembers them will tell you they most definitely sagged, were badly dilapidated and were about to fall down. Yes, I remember them exactly as...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Is that corridor (Currie/Grenfell) wide enough to be the major bus through-route and handle trams as well? There is currently only one lane each way for traffic, which is occasionally used by busses as well, when they need to pass a bus that is stopped in the bus lane to pick up or drop off passenge...

[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)

Personally i think a contemporary museum dedicated to Adelaide / South Australian history would be best - and this could also combine the aboriginal history too along with the architecture museum which is currently crammed into a tiny room at the uni. Something with a more broader appeal to more pe...

As much as I hate the record high fares
Well, any fare hike is going to create a record high fare, isn't it?
I travel 39km on the bus (mostly express) twice a day and each trip (no concession) costs me $4.25. I really don't think that's a problem.

that hasn't been the case for 30 years
That doesn't make it untrue. Somewhere along the line we dropped the ball, we need to fix that.

there are still way too many carparking stations in the CBD, and still no decent ring route around the CBD
You make it sound like other cities have a decent ring route around them, but do they? I don't think Australian cities do. Happy to be proven wrong.
