And no, they wouldn't use a single TBM and put both sets of tracks in a single tunnel. Which is actually being used in the under-construction Barelona metro line 9. Their TBM is 11.95 m in diameter and they will use small metro trains which are 2.71 m wide, while Adelaide metro trains are 3.2 m wid...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Maybe the city needs two exits like Mount Barker, Gawler and Nuriootpa have. I agree with the entire rest of your post, but just on this point. The city will already have two exits once T2D is complete: Port Road for traffic from the north and Anzac Highway for traffic from the south, and the Airpo...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

My sense is the tunnels are largely catering for people or freight travelling longer distances. Someone in the southern section that wants to go to Castle Plaza will still use the surface road, likewise people living along the northern section travelling to Brickworks will still use the surface roa...

- And to retain the TBMs upon project completion for other uses, especially a cross-CBD (or city) rail tunnel. As I believe has been mentioned previously, the motorway TBMs will be way too massive for a CBD rail tunnel. A TBM digging a three lane motorway (West Gate Tunnel TBMs are 15.6m in diamete...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Buses from around Happy Valley etc should feed into the rail network, instead of clogging up the expressway and roads closer to the CBD. The rail system however needs significant speeding up, as despite electrification and the millions spent is still painfully slow, snd poorly co-ordinated. Good in...

The map also indicates that the Emerson Overpass will remain in place. So maybe the Seaford Line will remain as-is or will have to be in a shallow trench. Emerson Overpass should be demolished and completely reconfigured. The train line NEEDS to be lowered beneath South and Cross (I doubt they’d be...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Maybe this is a solution for South Road/Daws Road. The motorway could go over the top with a roundabout underneath. Firstly, the southern tunnel will start somewhere before Daws Road so any kind of major alternation to the intersection would be redundant. Secondly, even if the motorway wasn't in a ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

On the subject of the ARS renewal, I had a chance to properly stand and look instead of just passing through and I’ve got some nitpicks. The new northern entrance is nice but it isn’t anything special either. It’s “ok”. The exterior archway really needs a sign above it that says “to Adelaide Railway...

Just re-floating the map I knocked up last year and some comments on the distances quoted in the project description: The lowered expressway at Darlington already rises at Ayliffes Road then descends under Tonsley Boulevard to rise back up to the current South Road. Surely they'd build the new sect...

Some wayfinding signage in the new black and yellow (Hello!) style at Flinders station. Not sure how long it's been here for, haven't been to this station for some months.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

When the Gawler railway line was closed, it was going to reopen in stages, but now is completely closed until it is all finished. That is not going to be popular, and Labor can legitimately argue the full closure was a Liberal decision - because Labor was only going to electrify the southern bit! L...

Has it been announced whether the tunnels will go below the River Torrens, Keswick Creek and Brownhill Creek? They are all in the second stage north of Anzac Highway. From InDaily's Budget 2020 summary: https://indaily.com.au/news/2020/11/10/budget-2020-the-key-measures/ A 4.3km southern tunnel fro...
