Re: Welcome to a new era in public transport for South Australia

I’m highly in favour of this outsourcing but yet I’m astonished that the spin doctors thought it was a good idea to spin it this way. They did a post on Facebook too.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Not exactly sure what thread to post this in, however this seems to be a good place. A few days ago I was browsing the internet and found a collection of PDF documents that some here may find interesting. 1973/74 Subway Proposal http://railknowledgebank.com/Presto//GetDoc.axd?ctID=NmQ5ZmY0YWQtNTc4N...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

It’s an outsourcing arrangement. “Privatising”, while technically true, is a bit misleading. For example, with made up figures - The government puts out to tender the operations of the network, subject to some pretty detailed specifications and KPIs, the winning bidder says e.g they will do it for $...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Deutsche Bahn is the state rail operator of the Federal Republic of Germany. If they win the contract, what the Liberal Government is essentially telling you is that it's fine for any efficiency savings to go to the German state, instead of the state of South Australia. We've been through all this ...

[COM] Re: Flinders Rail Link

Just noticed there was a press release on December 2 confirming the location of the new Tonsley Station. "Tonsley" will to be replacing Clovelly Park Station (which is a dump) but there seems to be very little parking included in the station design. Press release here from December 2 - htt...

From AdelaideNow: An elevated roadway should be constructed over South Rd to avoid tunnels and the decade it will take to build them, the Civil Construction Federation says. As the State Government prepares to release its preferred option to finish the final stages of the North-South Corridor, the f...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

Here is the AdelaideNow article - I don't think its as bad as first thought. $5 Billion worth of works that haven't even been announced yet would probably have taken close enough to a decade to complete anyway, and the truth is by breaking it up into smaller pieces it can be further de-risked. $5 BI...

[SWP] Re: Central Market

Amazing to think that Westpac stood alone as the only building in its height class for close enough to 3 decades. Once this is complete we will have 4 buildings of that height. The one thing that is missing here is an underground link to Victoria square tram stop - I know this has been talked about ...

Flinders link project newsletter - https://www.dpti.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/607151/Flinders_Link_Newsletter_Edition_2.pdf The thing that strikes me so far about this project is the piers - they have a really really smooth curved concrete finish and are far less boxy than any other simi...

Although, still concerned about outbound evening peak traffic will still be stuck at the intersection and back up Ayliffes Road like it’s always done once the project is fully completed. When the project is complete, tHat intersection should have a *lot* more capacity than it does now. Several of t...

Both options are vastly inferior to google maps. Google By GPS I did mean Google Maps or if you must, TomTom based services like Apple Maps. If you use anything other than Google Maps you have junk traffic data ;) So Google Maps real-time traffic data is better than Apple Maps? Just asking, I find ...

Or even better, use phone app Addinsight. Both options are vastly inferior to google maps. Google has several orders of magnitude more data than everyone else (it collects real time data from every android or google maps user), and a better ability to use it to forecast and capture real time traffic.

Looks like the Darlington road will be called The Southern Expressway (not the North South Motorway)

Permanent overhead signage has now been installed at the ayliffes road entrance.

everything was drip fed to us. There is an up-side to being drip-fed. It should lower the risk by breaking the project up into more manageable sections. DPTI is getting experienced at executing billion dollar upgrades now, but imagine if the first substantial project (superway) was a $5 billion dol...
