Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Parklands
It's great to see the state government take the lead with this. As Weatherill says, the parklands are for all South Australians and therefore i believe it's their responsibility to fund significant upgrades. I think most people would agree that the parklands are currently underfunded, hence the reas...

Re: Los Angeles/Portland Light Rail
Thanks PeFe. The first photo of their CBD shows they've got an unremarkable skyline. It actually looks a lot like Adelaide's - mostly flattish with one large brown building which is dominant! However from most reports their CBD area is very cool with lots of microbreweries, small bars, food trucks, ...

Re: Los Angeles/Portland Light Rail
Thank you for your kind words, zippySA. Portland is certainly the "poster boy" for urban regeneration in North America at the moment. I was genuinely surprised on how aesthetically pleasing the city is - there are trees everywhere, the CBD has been almost totally renovated in the last 20 ...

Got a question about the Port Link tram extension ... Does anyone else think that it would be more effective to continue the tramlines from the Entertainment Centre along the Port Rd centre median, rather than link up to the existing rail line at Bowden? The tram could run along Port Rd then turn ri...

I'm no history buff, but outuof interest anyway I've been reading a little bit about the City of Adelaide clipper ship. It is a crucial part of our state history, and I'm very glad that it will find a home in Adelaide. There is a similar clipper ship in dry dock in London called the Cutty Sark which...

Maybe I'm imagining this, but I've been under the impression it's been like that for a while, no? Nope, not that long. It was the first task of the redevelopment, so since around March. Phantom, if ACC had spent more money and patched up the pipe with pavers instead of bitumen, only to rip it up mo...

So what reasoning have the Liberals come up with for choosing Darlington instead, oh it has a higher volume of traffic. Well duh, the Torrens section is so bloody dangerous that people avoid driving on it. The obvious unspoken truth ... they think upgrading Darlington will win them more marginal se...

No that's not even the casino site!
The building depicted in the renders is not an actual proposal, it's a conceptual design to show what is possible under the revised state government planning laws for the riverbank precinct.

Saw SAHMRI up close today for the first time since all the window hoods have been installed, the effect on the building is stunning! It's a real head turner! Well done to all involved! I think it will encourage the general population that we don't have to be afraid of modern architecture.

Surely that full master plan must be a bit out of date by now if Stage 1 gets built as depicted? Can't imagine they are going to rip up the trees they planted in Stage 1 which borders the new event lawn? Or the trapezoidal fountain on the southern edge of the square is going to be "reshaped&quo...

Go to any suburban park with a decent playground and you will clearly see that this is the most popular section of the park. I've been to Hazelwood Park in Burnside numerous times on a sunny weekend and the playground section is packed with hundreds of people, whilst the rest of the park is empty. A...

What I would also like to see is one really world class adventure playground (google Muddies in Cairns) which is like a water park and adventure playground (add maybe add a skate park and man made beach) for kids of all ages in conjunction with markets/bars/kiosks/restaurants for adults to relax wh...
