Re: The Housing Crisis
Australia's falling birth rate is a direct result of high house prices and job insecurity.

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
I just feel kind of uneasy about running 100% on a form of generation that completely relies on perfect weather to operate efficiently. It also doesn’t help that quite a few people I’ve spoken to about this (not on here) act as if this is intermittency is some kind of advantage and go on about real...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
I don’t get what’s so bad about literally just legalising it? No one says as soon as it’s legal that we’re mandated to build any, it’s literally just changing a political decision made nearly 30 years ago There are plenty of higher priorities. Why spend time and money on something with zero priority?

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
Do you or do you not believe the proponents of starting a nuclear power industry in Australia genuinely want to build nuclear power plants? Simple question. Are you as 1. A proponent of nuclear and 2. Someone who hates foreign things, aware that you're not going to Bunnings and getting an off the s...

Basically saying that Australian Renewable Energy targets are achievable, and that renewables are the cheapest new build technology.

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
Also FMD what a time to be alive when rednecks are bird watchers Why are you even on this forum? I live here and you don't. You left Australia to live in the EU which is run by a bunch of lunatics like Guy Verhofstadt and Ursula Von Leyen. Stay in your lane and butt out of our affairs. Nobody made ...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
Nuclear power plants also have the problem that they are cash flow negative for twenty years during the planning and construction phases, and then might take another twenty years to break even, only making a profit after that. That assumes that the cost of energy from the nuclear plant is competiti...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
If we’re going to take the stance of banning things solely because they cost too much, then maybe we should outlaw pumped hydro as well? Maybe expand the scope a little further and ban rail transport as well because the Inland Rail project went way over budget? Well, both of those projects were the...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
Given that private industry isn't even remotely interested unless there's heavy taxpayer subsidy, and that the history of major projects over the past 15 years is deplorable, you'd think it would be political suicide. That's not even considering the NIMBY vote. The best option would be to quietly d...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
To get this back onto the subject of energy discussion rather than whatever the hell the last couple of pages have been, I wonder if the Liberal nuclear policy will even make it to the election. There is so much pushback and a clear lack of consultation that it seems very risky to run on, but at th...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
Well if you bothered to read the posts, or do your own research you would know that energy prices in this country are overseen by the Australian Energy Regulator. So when the Australian Energy Regulator says "we are the changing the default offer on electricity to a lower base" then a rea...
