Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
It is very much real - take a look at the new Uni of Adelaide Building on North Tce (AMNHS Building) - it isn't simply a design feature the way it cantilevers at the eastern end - due to the underground easement of DPTI - no piles allowed to penetrate the reserved space.

Re: Beer Garden
Assuming they only play games in the day time  ? Or do they have large battery storage too? I love the concept and even looks cool - and not trying to be always negative - but there is so much mis-information and marketing speak around energy and things like this - it detracts from the main ...

Re: #Official Defence Thread
Some may say the US is well ahead in defence technology and development - but I often wonder how much is propoganda versus reality. My biggest thought about the whole thing is more that I feel submarines and surface ships appear to be totally ready for "disruption" and that lethal, mass ma...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Good points Rubberman. I wonder if another contributor to this is the Industry Participation Policy - almost an unintended consequence. As this requirement for Consultants and Contractors has increased of late, placing very real and high importance on locally based resources - when we tackle project...

[VIS] Re: New Womens and Childrens Hospital
I am a little bemused on how quickly the debate focusses on the single statement "direct connection to RAH" as though this is the single driver for the whole project. WCH has been operating stand-alone for it's entire existence - and as stated in the paper, currently emergency cases are tr...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Mind you - the Magil Rd option must be an interesting one to assess from a cost-benfit basis. Parade is already functioning very well commercially and rents etc I believe are amongst the highest in Adelaide. Also multi-level apartments sprouting up which will further cement this strip. If you consid...

interesting collection of alternate views on this one - though the "no's" seem very much in the minority and S-A is very much a "taller is better" audience (I say deliberately awaiting the attacks from known users) Question to moderators: would love to see one of your surveys - a...

Re: The Federal Politics Thread
This is a storm in a tea-cup. My understanding is that the funds (most likely to comply with Treasury and International Accounting standards) cannot be inserted into the Federal Budget forward estimates until the agreed process is complete - this includes the often coined "Business Case" a...

It's telling that the render is positioned to be the "least offensive" view from way back on North Tce. This simply is out of total scale for the location and Adelaide as a whole. Our planning system and advocates for high-rise residential have simlpy got it wrong. With all our space, and ...

Re: Uber vs Taxi
It's a good debate this - I wouldn't be too quick to shoot down GHS's thinking - is there any evidence or analysis about whether Uber is creating demand or simply taking share from taxis? I would actually back GHS given the government has seen fit to apply an Uber surcharge to all taxi fares to prep...

[SWP] Re: Former RAH Site (Design Competition)
It's a good point - bit of a catch 22. One thing that keeps frustrating me though, is the government's assertion that injecting residential and hence the much longed for 24/7 activation will "save the East end" (ignoring that pretty much only Hindley St has 24/7 activation and that's not p...

[SWP] Re: Former RAH Site (Design Competition)
This really must go down as one of the greatest government mis-management fiasco's in SA history. This site was confirmed as being vacant in 2009 when they signed the new RAH contract - and they have even had an extra 18 months to prepare, and now, less than a month after moving out - we have nothin...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Trying not to sound like an apologist - but decisions made back then were based upon what they knew at the time and when vehicles were the best new thing to solve all our problems. Don't be too harsh when applying nostalgic views back in time - with the way things are developing (and btw I support f...

[SWP] Re: Former RAH Site (Design Competition)
I don't disagree its a massive amount - but from what has been stated, we are already the ones already paying $200M to de-risk this for the developers. What a great deal (for the developer and the 1,000 odd people who end up purchasing these - over 15+ yrs!). If this stacks up commercially, then why...

[SWP] Re: Former RAH Site (Design Competition)
I'm pleased to see almost total consensus here that this proposal is simply underwhelming and in my view bordering on criminal (ie - this land is governed by legislation that mandates civic purpose only can be entertained for the Parklands - residential towers are not civic!). This is a massive lost...
