Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

https://indaily.com.au/news/2023/03/31/burying-sa-powerlines-to-cost-between-40-to-60-billion/ There's no reason it has to be done by SAPN. If councils want powerlines undergrounded, they can build their own underground network in competition to SAPN. That way the network is re-nationalised, but th...

Re: Petrol Station Owners

How will this work with the Coles 4 c/L fuel discount at Coles Express? Everything is usually cheaper at Coles Express than other servos, so it will be disappointing to see them leave. All the more reason to buy an electric car.

How will the EAF be powered? Can it be shut down when renewable energy is not available or do these EAFs need to run 24/7?

Re: News & Discussion: Roads & Traffic

The main problem is you would realistically only have one train a day and if your truck arrives at the train station just after the train leaves, too bad, the truck has to wait another day. Or you can drive the truck to the destination. The only way this would work is if it was compulsory or there w...

Re: Gepps Cross intersection

The number of paths vehicles can take through an intersection is n*(n-1), where n is the number of roads leading to the intersection. A normal four road intersection has 12 possible paths, five roads like Gepps Cross has 20. The traffic lights need to give each of these 20 paths a go every cycle, so...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

The 22% increase is going to be an absolutely massive hit to already struggling households. And the recession hasn't even technically hit yet. We're in for a dire couple of years. Is the increase in consumption tariffs or the daily tariff? If it's consumption tariffs, then we're going to see more h...

Here's the images from the article including the map of their target destinations. image_2023-02-19_103953223.png e8df933f0ce4c38e5ba08bd63054ef971e645772.jpg I'm surprised Los Angeles is so low given it's where most Australia to USA flights end up. Most people going Adelaide to Los Angeles would b...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

What are the consequences of Neoen being "exempted from holding a licence for the transmission line"? What would be the consequence of it not being exempted? Is ESCOSA supporting the needs of SA electricity consumers, or supporting foreign investment (if they are not aligned)? Presumably ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

The article mentions Melbourne has transponders on the trams to keep traffic lights green. That's something sorely needed here since the trams are always getting held up at red lights.

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

I was thinking near Wudinna. As far as I can tell, that is the western end of the Electranet transmission network. Further west would be 66kV SA Power Networks. The line to Wudinna is 132kV single circuit from Yadnarie substation (west of Cleve), which has recently been upgraded to have double 132k...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

I'd like to see a large solar farm on marginal land near the western extremity of the network to help with the summer afternoon peak. That would likely need several substation upgrades as the power would flow in the opposite direction, but the farm could be scaled to only produce what the transmiss...
