Port Wakefield bypass finally on the agenda

Good news for Wakefield Waters with a bypass at Port Wakefield confirmed to be on State and Federal Government agendas.

A spokesperson for Minister for Transport Patrick Conlon says “The South Australian Government has submitted a list of projects, the Port Wakefield Bypass project among them, to the Federal Government for its consideration in the next round of Auslink funding”.

The list, submitted about two months ago, will be considered by the Federal Government and costing “firmed up” in conjunction with the State Government before funding is announced at the end of 2008.

Wakefield Waters, recently declared a Major Project by the State Government, is about to start work on its commercial precinct, having included in plans a “best guess” at the site of the bypass.

Proponent Andrew Chapman has long said he would include a bypass in planning the development.

The commercial precinct will include a service station, food outlets, tackle shop and a park, with stage 2 adding a supermarket, chemist, doctor’s surgery and specialty shops.

But seriosly, dont you think $500,000 for a water front house in Port wakefield is a bit much?
Remember its port wakefield after all and im losing interest in this project.

I didn't know it was possible to have a waterfront block of land in Pt Wakefield unless you built in the sea outside the mangroves.

Well you could say the same about Port Adelaide a few years ago, now look at it. But where did you hear 500k for waterfront house.

But I'm certainly not losing interest in this, this is probably one of the largest residential developments in regional Australia. SA needs more larger regional centres.

Well.. if i'm to guess.. i would say it's because it's a key corridor route to mining communities, close to a tourist hotspot, and close to adelaide. Although i'd guess they're mainly owner-occupied homes due to the employment situation there. But i need someone closer to the ground to confirm that.

But i suspect drsmith is right in saying it's over exuberance in a heated economy.
