Re: The Fandangled New Ticketing System which we are Getting
There was an article about this in the paper this morning.. Havent been able to find it on adelaidenow though
Re: The Fandangled New Ticketing System which we are Getting
A quick search of an online database I have access to yields this:
Not much detail, though I'm excited that they hope to start replacement early next year. I wasn't expecting so soon.PUBLIC TRANSPORT $15m smartcard
The Advertiser, September 2008
ADELAIDE'S public transport is to get a new smartcard ticketing system.
The Transport Department hopes to have a replacement by early next year.
The new system is expected to cost $15 million. The current equipment has been in operation for more than 20 years and is costing the government about $225,000 a year in lost revenue.

Great, this will mean that the O-Bahn interchanges should be gated soon as well, as they would need several new gates at the Adelaide Station alone (unless they just upgrade the current ones).

the only station that has them and has room for them is Adelaide Railway Station, cause looking at the Layout of Mawson Lakes and Oaklands there seems to be no room for a row of ticket gates, only a sign that says (and i've paraphrased this): "unless u have a ticket, please get the fuck off our station or we will give u a fine"Norman wrote:Great, this will mean that the O-Bahn interchanges should be gated soon as well, as they would need several new gates at the Adelaide Station alone (unless they just upgrade the current ones).

Thinking about the idea of gating O-Bahn stops, what's to stop fair evaders simply walking along the on-off ramps at the interchanges? With the layout of the interchanges, it would be a relatively short detour. Something DTEI will need to consider.

The gating would be caged as they do in Brazil. However I don't think it would work here. We have too many different model buses with different door positions. It would also make transfers more difficult.AtD wrote:Thinking about the idea of gating O-Bahn stops, what's to stop fair evaders simply walking along the on-off ramps at the interchanges? Gating is more trouble than it's worth.

You seem a little slow mate.ynotsfables wrote:Somebody; You need to get some sleep your making everybody tired - yawn.
They would - otherwise they'd just jump over the gates (or put their hand on the sensor to let 5 of their mates follow them through after putting in one ticket), or they'd ask the barrier attendant to open the bypass gate for them.AtD wrote:Thinking about the idea of gating O-Bahn stops, what's to stop fair evaders simply walking along the on-off ramps at the interchanges? So what ticketing system are we getting?
I hope its similar in function to a credit card.

Hopefully non-contact cards (RFID) like London's Oyster cards, instead of smart cards with electrical contacts.Düsseldorfer wrote:perhaps awesome, credit card sized, chip-cards

As suggest earlier, the translink Go Card seems like a great solution.
i like the idea that you "touch off" at the end of your journey, with the fare then automatically worked out and deducted.

I'm not sure what monotonehell was referring to exactly, but the impression I got was that he was referring to the rapid corridor bus services that serve the city of Curitiba. Each bus stop is like a mini train station with gates for entry and exit and the buses are bi-articulated.
