BREAKING STORY: A FIRE has broken out at Sydney's Centrepoint Tower this morning, sending a huge cloud of black smoke billowing out over the city centre.
Six fires crews attended the scene at around 8.20am after fire broke out in the shopping centre's cooling system when a worker accidentally ignited a cooling tower.
The cooling tower was being dismantled and removed as part of ongoing contruction works at the time.
Emergency crews said the fire was on the 13th floor - the base of the tower.
City residents and workers arriving at their CBD offices this morning could see the thick smoke blanketing parts of the city.
City of Sydney station officer Dean Gray said there were no exacuations or injuries.
"The damage is only to the cooling tower which was going to be removed anyway,'' Mr Gray said.
The fire was extinguished by 8.50am.
The Westfield Centrepoint shopping centre has been closed in recent weeks as part of a new renovation overhaul.
