Lighthouse Deckchair Cinema returns again for another season!

Grab your family and friends, a favourite bean bag or deckchair, and a picnic hamper and enjoy some free celluloid entertainment by the Port's iconic Lighthouse.

Showing classic movies from comedy and cult to animation and action, the 2009 cinema programme begins Friday 23 January, operating every Friday, Saturday (and some Sunday) nights through to Saturday 21 February.

To complete the cinema experience, Lighthouse Deckchair Cinema also provides the ever-popular 'cinema candy bar' with traditional cinema treats.

Movie screenings commence at sunset, but get in early as there are no reserved seats or seating areas.

2009 Palaeontology Week at the South Australian Museum and other locations

A week long festival of fossil activities
Saturday 21 to Sunday 29 March
10am to 5pm daily

Palaeo Week visitors will journey back more than 560 million years through SA's
fossil history from the Ediacaran 'creatures of the slime' of the Flinders Ranges
to 120 million year old sea monsters from the Eromanga Sea near Coober Pedy,
and megafauna from 2 million years ago.

Some of the many activities during Palaeo Week include:

· Meeting palaeontologists as they talk about their discoveries
· Learning about fossil preparation and identification
· Behind the scenes look in the palaeo labs

Alternative energy cars to race across outback

South Australia's Premier Mike Rann has used the start of the Adelaide 500 motor racing event to announce another event, promoting alternative energy vehicles.

The Global Green Challenge has evolved from the success of the World Solar Challenge.

It will be run from Darwin to Adelaide in October and include hybrid, electric and low-emission vehicles, as well as solar-powered.

Mr Rann says the event is perfect for a region that has a huge commitment to the car industry.

"Really we want this race to be the test bed for cars powered by renewable, sustainable energy and their coming of age," he said.

"There couldn't be a more perfect fit between a state that's committed to renewable energy and a car industry that's turning toward green cars."

THE lions at Monarto are hungry for the roar of this weekend's Live at the Zoo festival.

The stage is all but set for South Australia's first camping music festival with some of Australia's biggest musical acts descending upon Monarto Zoo.

More than 6000 punters are expected to "go wild" at the event through festival director Peter Rowe's vision.

"I was looking for a venue that had good marketing potential and the scope to hold people in the future," Peter says.

"The site is just perfect for a large influx of people, and being Easter it's the perfect time of year for people to get away and enjoy some great music."

With more than 120 bands and DJs performing over the weekend, it's a festival-goers delight, but unlike many music festivals where you can spend more money inside the event than you did on the ticket, Live at the Zoo doesn't beat the same drum.

"We've made a very special effort to make sure all the beverages are at happy hour prices," Peter says.

"A lot of festivals really hit you for drink prices but we want to make sure that the weekend is good value."

More than 150 staff and volunteers will be on hand at the festival which finds campers overlooking the picturesque landscape and more importantly the main stage area.

But if the music becomes all too much, tours of the zoo will be held throughout the weekend.

As part of the Annual Law Week activities, the Courts Administration Authority
(CAA) is holding an Open Day on Saturday 9 May, 2009. The Open Day will give the
public of SA a glimpse into the current and historical workings of the courts,
with tours of the cells and courtrooms, morning and afternoon mock trials, a
sentencing seminar, court reporting demonstrations and various information
stands about the different jurisdictions of the CAA. There will also be numerous
information stands from other organisations and government agencies working
within the justice system, as well as interactive forensic science activities
and children's activities.
