Civic Park Spectacular - Tea Tree Gully

The Civic Park Spectacular in Tea Tree Gully is on tonight with Jessica Mauboy
performing. With free entry there could be close to 20,000 people there tonight.

Is anyone going ?

It's good that the TTG council is prepared to support an event like this. As far as I
I know none of the other councils in Adelaide have events like this.

The TTG council doesn't 'support' the event, they run it, at great expense.

Even if it does cost the council a lot of money I think its good to have a community event
like this which people can go to for free.

According to the messenger there were 30,000 people at the event.

I've been there! It was very hot in the daylight, but it quickly cooled down at night time.
I've enjoyed the amusement rides like last time. I even watched them being assembled before the event day.

The Tea Tree Gully Council have decided to cancel this event - sad news, however I
can understand why - the cost involved would have been huge.

It was on the TV the other night but strangely enough I haven't seen it reported in 'The Messenger'
or on the internet. I hope it hasn't been cancelled.

The event, which attracted a record 30,000 crowd in February to see Australian Idol's Jessica Mauboy perform, was this week named as one of three community events scrapped by the council.

The concert has attracted acts such as Guy Sebastian, Ricki-Lee Coulter and Wes Carr over the past 18 years, but cost the council $150,000 to run.

The council's Painting and Ceramics Exhibition and Competition and Mayoral Ball will also be cut, to make way for Christmas carols, movies at Civic Park and a Santos Tour Down Under stage start.

Acting Mayor Paul Barbaro said the new events appealed to a wider audience.

"We wanted to appeal to more people rather than just strictly the music lovers," Cr Barbaro said.

"It was time to diversify and appeal to a wider audience and the new concept that we will follow annually is exciting and should be embraced by our community."

I hope it'll also make way for the TTP upgrade, which the project is 6 years old.

The Spectacular has nothing to do with the upgrade to TTP. Everything the council can do has been done, including extending the approval of the expansion. It's up to Westfield to pony up the cash.

If you understand that, then you should also understand that filming the pop idol concert & the fireworks finale and uploading them to YouTube is merely a vote to put a subpoena in TTG's letterbox.

His post about the MFS doing training on the south road superway was better.
