Great news in my opinion.

ONE of the Adelaide's largest joint security operations will protect US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her planned visit next week.

Sections of the CBD, including North Tce and King William St, are likely to be locked down for the visit, which was revealed on adelaidenow yesterday.

Planning for the massive operation to protect the second most powerful woman in the world has been under way for the past week.

US embassy officials and security specialists have been working with Australian Federal Police, senior SA Police and STAR Group officers to plan the operation.

The visit is expected to be confirmed by White House officials as early as today.

Sources said the initial planning indicated the operation would be similar to when US Defence Minister Donald Rumsfeld and other defence officials were in Adelaide for the Australia-US Ministerial Meeting (AUSMIN) in 2005.

Good media exposure for Adelaide. A day or two of chaos for sure, but a small price to pay for excellent exposure for our city.

Again, the cardinal rule... do not read the comments on AdelaideNow.

What a pack of absolute cretins.

Potentially her visit could lead to the US Navy using facilities at Osborne which would be really good for SA economically.

There is big money in defence. Our facilities here in SA are much more advanced then the defence facilities in WA.

Hillary Clinton's visit to Adelaide, and in particular Techport, seems to have been a great success. Lots of positive media reports and the profile of Techport, its facilites and highly skilled workforce, was raised considerably within Australia and beyond.

I heard the US Ambassador talking up our city, including the university focus and technical skills of the workforce, on ABC Breakfast Radio. The only sour note was the dimwit announcers trying to create a gotcha moment and political point scoring to use in their program but the Ambassador politely told them they were wrong in some assertions and sidestepped political ramifications.

Sheeeesh. They (and the typical rabid Adelaide Now whingers) do our state a disservice.

Kim Beazley (who's an idiot) is the US Ambassador and he is from W.A. so he is going to
be more interested in promoting HMAS Stirling (in Perth) then Techport.

The radio interview was with the US Ambassador to Australia, Jeffrey Bleich, who accompanied Hillary Clinton on her visit to Adelaide.
