The event over the weekend was a massive success by all accounts. A dozen or so seats were broken and will be fixed at the cost of the FFA i believe. The SMA didn't seem all that concerned in the scheme of things and the police said they were generally pleased and 2 out of 50,000 people were arrested. Read the link below what they said about the event. Stop trying to sensationalize some of the minor items of event.

Thanks vozdra for the link.
There were two arrests at the venue which was hosting it’s first A-League grand final, a number Mr Chandler said was “on par’’ with other events where the oval hosted 50,000 spectators.
So there you are!!! Except someone at The Advertiser has no idea about "it's" and its proper usage. It's is a contraction of it is or it has!!! It is: not the possessive form of the neuter pronoun "it" — his, her, its. Get it right people!

Cheers

P.S. Added a colon (:) to precede the explanation of "it is" not being the possessive, etc., etc.

Of course it has issues world wide, it's a global sport. It's not called the world game by chance you know.
Do you think AFL and NRL don't have governance issues?
Go ask Leigh Whicker how much he benefitted from the shady and dodgy catering contracts he awarded to his own company while running the SANFL at AAMI stadium.
The only reason you hear about the issues with FIFA is because it's a global sport.

What has governance got to do with fans standing on seats anyway? I don't see any correlation between what's happening with the FIFA executive and Wanderers fans standing on seats while chanting and supporting their team.
The obvious consequence of standing on something not designed for you to stand on let alone repeatedly jump up and down on is that it will eventually break.
I've seen plenty of people at the footy standing on seats.
I've seen flares on more then one Occassion at SANFL games.
Ive seen lots of brawls at AFL and SANFL games.

It's not dramatised though because this is Aussie Rules heartland and "wog ball" represents a real threat to the mid to long term dominance of the AFL.

50,000+ at a soccer grand final in Adelaide. On the same weekend an AFL match was on. Who would have thought that was possible 10 years ago?

This is good news. Not only for Adelaide United but the city in general. By winning the league and GF, they can hopefully generate enough interest and sign up more members, and we can see a genuine real interest in more people wanting to go to see them play that it will hopefully translate into a new rectangular stadium. Hindmarsh is currently the smallest in the league at 16,500.
Hopefully a new stadium is built next to Adelaide Oval.

The great news was that Adelaide the team, the Oval and the city shone on a national stage on Sunday, but on to next year, they will still struggle to fill Hindmarsh (as they have even this year-a premiership year) and any talk of a new stadium next to AO is pure fantasy. Soccer as a spectator sport just isn't gaining enough traction in Australia despite the random blockbuster. Australians in general like their sport fast and high scoring. Better to spend the money on a multi purpose indoor facility for tennis, basketball, netball finals.

I disagree, I think Australians like a fun atmosphere in general. We got 48k at the day/night test and we still get hundreds of thousands of people turning up every year at the Clipsal. It's a fun atmosphere with convenient transport that Australians enjoy, I don't think it matters what's even on. If the tram line stopped infront of Coopers Stadium you could fill it ever week, they should have forced the entertainment center to switch the entrance to Manton street so the tram line could go down there instead of port road.

Soccer in Australia will only continue to grow and we can't sit idly by why it does. A strong local team does wonders for the hospitality industry and limiting a teams chances of having more members isn't doing us any favours

I wonder if with a small upgrade to Hindmarsh (cover for eastern stand, more corporate facilites and possibly filling in some corners), the tram line could be extended down Port Road, and turn left down Milner street to terminate there. Consideration could also be given to try and give some extra length to the pitch to allow better for the rugby codes. This would cover AUFC's needs in the foreseeable future.

The existing tram stop is only about 500m from the entrance. The train station another 200M. I don't think lack of PT is the reason Coppers is not full to the brim every week, but sure...lets spend 30odd million to move the tram so we can dream of getting more to the soccer. The Adelaide station is far further from the northern end of AO but that does not seem to pose a problem for the 40-50 thousand per week that attend Aussie rules. How about soccer Australia provide FREE public transport to its games, and then once the stadium achieves full houses on a regular basis talk about upgrading or moving it.

Well, the tram is already free from the city to Hindmarsh.

I agree though, there's no point extending one stop to Hindmarsh Stadium, it's not far from the Entertainment Centre. But hypothetically, if you were to do a full line down Grange Rd, then you'd obvious put a stadium stop in. (In fact, I'd prefer that option for the tram line, and keep the Outer Harbour line heavy rail).

I think the bulk of these ideas are in the pipeline at Coopers (the tramline isn't, but there was talk of extending the pitch slightly to attract NRL matches in winter, when the stadium is all but dormant).

Now, let's be honest claybro. Australia's major sport is NOT AFL, NRL or Cricket, but beer drinking and getting pissed. They couldn't give a toss what they watched as long as they can place a bet on it or have a drink while screaming profanities and letting off steam. That's why Aussie Rules and NRL do well. However if the same Aussies were in England they'd be no different than the Poms. Nothing to do with scoring more goals, getting bashed around the ears or being fast-paced. It's cultural.

...and as for the stadium WE WANT BOTH. One for football (world game) and an enclosed arena for court sports.

Sports events, exhibitions, trade fairs, symposiums, etc., and anything else in hospitality and tourism are great employers. Our state government needs to build on what we've already achieved. When it comes to a venue for football we do have a conundrum. Do we need the membership first before a stadium is built or would people flock to a state of the art venue (as in "build it and they'll come")? I'm of the opinion to build a stadium, fully covered with a capacity of about 50,000. Remember the AFC Asian Cup and how we missed out?! That embarrassment should spur us on.

Cheers

Off topic here. But since you've mentioned this. The tram line up to the Entertainment Centre should be extended to Hindmarsh Stadium onto Grange Road and not up Port Road! And as said keep the heavy rail to Outer Harbour. If Coopers Stadium is sold for housing and a new football stadium built elsewhere it still works out well for those who'll live there. The government should not waste money on a Port Road (Port Adelaide) extension when you have heavy rail that only needs electrification and minor station upgrades. My :2cents: worth.

Cheers

You're right where the tram stops isn't the issue. The issue is that Hindmarsh/Coopers stadium is a crap hole in a crap location.
Similar to AAMI stadium, where crowd numbers were down. AFL moved to a redeveloped Adelaide Oval, and look at what it's done for crowd figures 3 years in. Consistently high crowd figures, even with Port playing poorly for a season and a bit now. Memberships for both clubs also went up.
So a similar argument, now that Adelaide United have put them selves on the map in the general publics mind/eye, can be made that a new stadium in the city next to Adelaide Oval, would do similar things for Adelaide United and football.
Who wants to go to Hindmarsh stadium? With it's limited parking, it's limited public transport options. And yes they are limited. Because it isn't Adelaide Oval with a short walk across a bridge to the central train station. There aren't "Soccer express" buses put on like the footy express buses.

You aren't going to get your average punter on a tram or train from the CBD to Hindmarsh.
First they have to drive in, then they have to queue for a tram, then they have to get off the tram and walk and queue to get in. It's time consuming and annoying. And people wont do it and don't do it in large numbers. It's just not convenient.
You could catch the train...of course after you get off in the city and get onto another train...but again, it's not convenient.
Adelaide Oval you park in the CBD, and walk to Adelaide Oval. Or you catch a train in and walk out the door and across a bridge and you're there.

Once again. Public transport IS NOT the reason why people don't go to the soccer. But hey, lets spend a few hundred million on a rectangular stadium adjacent to Adelaide oval. Then, even if Adelaide United won every home game, and soccer crowds DOUBLED to say 12000 per home game.......Now if Adelaide united go back to just a middle rung club, and there are a few "incidences" at the stadium or outside? Not a good bet if you ask me.
