Beautiful today - 29C and a light wind, which brought half of Adelaide into town for the sales. I thought it was more more busier than last year, and funny to see them all drive in, creating traffic jams everywhere. Getting up to 37 for Thurs and Fri, which (after the heat waves) hardly feels hot anymore
Oh no, do you mean next week?! 37C doesn't feel hot? After more than a week of below freezing weather, 37F doesn't feel cold. We've been saying over the last month that this has been a mild winter, but the daily max is still only around 5C. BTW, I think that the coldest weather that I've been out on the bike was -8C; bombing down a hill in that air, you know you're alive.

Hmmm....obviously I need to visit the Pub more often - I've just stumbled upon this thread - and what an interesting read it's been! A few confirmations and a few surprises too.

Well, I'm Ryan (Ryan-ocerous -> Rhino), 60s child, born in Sri Lanka, grew up in Henley Beach area, now married with a couple of boys, aged 12 and 9, living in a mostly self-made mud brick mansion on a patch of land surrounded by farms a few kilometres outside Oakbank in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. I stumbled upon this site in 2005, probably through Railpage, where I had already been lurking for some years (a few of you probably realised I was that Rhino). My interests, with regard to this forum, are mainly in infrastructure, but also in anything that makes Adelaide and South Australia (already a great place) a better place. I love our old heritage buildings, but don't necessarily agree about which buildings should be heritage listed, and I think Grenfell St is a great example of how heritage and modern design can co-exist.

I love living in South Australia - I love having 4 distinct seasons every year - just when I'm really sick of the heat, along comes Autumn, followed by winter, and just when I'm getting really sick of the cold and rain, along comes Spring - it's fantastic.

I am a cartographer by profession, have been all my working life, and I'm one of those lucky people who always knew what I wanted to do career-wise. My career has taken me all over this state, doing field verification with a 4WD and a workmate, staying in pubs, meeting locals, it's been a fantastic job. Leisure-wise I love all rucsac sports (hiking, canoeing, especially rock climbing) and most of our holidays are camping holidays - it's great to hook the camper trailer on to the back of the 4WD and head off, occasionally with canoes and rock climbing gear too. South Australia has some fantastic destinations. I also love being at home, working on my house, working in my shed, having a beer sitting by a campfire when mates drop in. I'm a greeny too, but at the same time I'm fascinated with the idea of pulling ore out of the ground - go figure.

Well, it's been great getting to know you guys through this thread - keep up the good work, I enjoy your different points of view, helps me get a more balanced view of things (no, I don't read the comments on Adelaide Now!) :D

welcome Rhino! feels kinda wierd saying that - 1270-ish posts late :-)

Where would we be without Cartographers - nowhere!

Rhino - love your posts (and your comprehensive searching and coverages) and your heart for Adelaide. I'm a 50's child and like you, have been in the one job and career all my life, with only 13 yrs in Adelaide however. Depth and quality of the forum increasing all the time - some of that credit is due to you.

Hey all

I've been reading the forums quite a bit of late... and also realising that, after 2 weeks, i hadnt clicked by activation email as part of the sign up process. Boy, feeling sharp today!

Name is martin and I actually stumbled across the forums searching for info on the building i just moved into (altitude). Development... specifically Adelaide CBD development is something i find very interesting, although being in finance by trade, not something i know a great deal about - im learning quite a bit poking around on here. Ive lived in Adelaide all my life, grew up in the hills and moved down to the plains when i was ~20. Lived just south of the city for a few years and spent the last 7 up in the eastern burbs before biting the bullet and moving into the CBD. I work a 10min walk away from home now, it's a neat lifestyle... although you've gotta work to maintain your excercise and keep the eating to a reasonable pace :)

Needless to say, im buoyed by the supportive attitudes towards development that i see on the forum here - and the active promotion of these views that has been going on.

Look forward to learning more about what is going on around our little piece of the world and chipping in where i can.

Cheers

I don't think I've ever posted on this thing. I guess it's better to be later than never.

I am iTouch but my real name is Mat :) I'm 18, (19 in a month)

I grew up in Tea Tree Gully and moved to Golden Grove last year. I'm doing an introductory course at Tabor University which is on Goodwood road, Goodwood and am hoping to get into Youth Work or something around those lines. I don't have a car so I rely on the Obahn and buses for my daily life.

Back in 2007, I stumbled onto SkyScraperCity because I found massive interest in the 20-22 Currie St tower which made me start to question why Adelaide didn't many skyscrapers like the Gold Coast. I often went to teachers asking about this but they had no clue so I decided to google "Adelaide Developments" which brought me to this website.
I didn't really talk much until last year because I didn't want to state an opinion, I wanted to learn. I believe there are hundreds of Adelaideans who stumble onto this forum that share this same mindset.
Oh also, this website helped me get me an A+ in my Grade 11 Studies of Society ;) Thankyou. It really means a lot.
