Although the development is private sector investment, it comes on the back of the sale of QLD government owned properties owing to the consolidation of government departments from several buildings in that part of the Brisbane CBD into the new 1 William Street office building nearby. The casino and surrounds are not going to commence until 1 William Street is complete.

I'm relocating to Brisbane next month to work on this project.

Remember REM foisted the Myer centre upon us immediately after they packed up from construction the Myer Centre in Brisbane. Although way back then Brisbane had a similar population to Adelaide...

Hypothetically it wouldn't have to be on the same scale.
Besides, is it even possible to have a second casino here? Would it be a simple matter of the government giving out another license and copping the backlash from the Greens and other do-gooders who think their ideology is what everyone should use to run their lives, or would it require legislation? Anyway..

Our river/waterfront will be so underwhelming when it's all "upgraded". A massive missed opportunity.
I've beaten on about this before, but here I go again.

The whole area between the Oval, King William St, North Terrace, and the Old Goal, should have been flattened with the exception of both parliament houses and the casino building. Of course some people think the Festival Center is worthy of being kept, fair enough. But the rest..a dogs breakfast doesn't describe it.

The "River Torrens" between Port Road and Hackey Road should have been widened significantly and a ferry service run up and down it. Why drive into the city or catch a bus or tram, when you can catch a ferry? Bowden is going to be a high density suburb soon, it would have plenty of patronage.
What's the big deal, it's only surrounded by ugly and dark uninviting scrub, trees, grass and dirt.
Port Road along Bonython Park will eventually be high rise residential buildings anyway, and Bonython Park it self is disgraceful.

The casino should have been moved from the railway station building. That building should have been turned into a boutique hotel or even a museum.
The riverfront facing the oval should have been redeveloped into a strip of cafes bars restaurants clubs. ENOUGH with the bloody grass and ugly trees already. This isn't a town on the banks of the River Murray, it's a capital city.

The convention center should have been rebuilt by the NRAH. There would have been plenty of room for a new convention center instead of university buildings.

In place of where the conventer center and Intercontinental are now, could have been a new casino, resort and hotel complex.

The Festival Center, if not demolished, then massively upgraded and modernized. How, I don't know. I think it looks crap, but that's just my opinion.
For me it's part of "old Adelaide". Part of "old Adelaide" is all the negative stereotypes of this city. Kind of how the Westpac building has been the tallest building in this city for decades now with the rest of the skyline almost unchanged.

Festival plaza should have been turned into a modern and decent public plaza. It is a perfect location for Fringe events and other festival events.

Pinky Flat and the opposite side where the small tennis courts are should have been removed mostly to widen the "river". War Memorial Drive from Montefiore Road to King William St should have been removed. The Tennis center and Gym should have been demolished, and a proper indoor arena and a few outdoor courts built, with the Telstra/Southern plaza of Adelaive Oval expanded towards the river and footbridge.

Yep, it would cost a shit load of money that the state doesn't have therefore would be in debt. But it would also create thousands of jobs, perhaps 10,000+, would stimulate the economy, and would put Adelaide on the map nationally and internationally.

There's a reason why the new waterfront development in Sydney with the Packer casino is being modeled on Melbourne's southbank..because it works.

Rev I like some of your idea's there all be it money money money sounds like a good plan. Just on that I'm glad Adelaide got to witness that sometimes in order to make money you need to spend money , Adelaide Oval a mighty fine example of that or not? Would have it been a bad idea to maybe spend 100M less on the NRAH and put that towards finishing off Vic square and a festival theatre make over or something along those lines.....

I've being saying this for years too!! I'll be happy when the day comes that there's a building in Adelaide taller than the Westpac that completely changes the skyline. I keep following this site in the hope that one day I'll be shocked with a building that's going to really put Adelaide back on the map. I'm also going to say, the new Brisbane Casino is going to to leave Adelaide's for dead regardless of the redevelopment. I really hope the final design's a hell of a lot better than what's been released so far...
