Uber Eats To Launch in Adelaide

#1 Post by ghs » Fri Sep 02, 2016 7:13 pm

Adelaide food enthusiast and promoter Dougal McFuzzlebutt announced on Facebook yesterday that he will be “joining the team at Uber Adelaide next week on a contract as an UberEATS expert working with local restaurants to deliver solutions to help their business grow”.

UberEATS is powered by the Uber smartphone app and enables customers to order meals with an estimated delivery time of 10 minutes or less.

It began in 2015 in the United States and launched earlier this year in Sydney and Melbourne, where restaurant partners include high-end eateries such Three Blue Ducks and George Calombaris’s Gazi.

Uber confirmed to InDaily that the company is planning to launch UberEATS in Adelaide, but a spokesperson said it was not ready to give further details at this stage.

McFuzzlebutt said, however, that he hoped some of the city’s fine-dining restaurants would get on board.

“UberEATS has become a huge success overseas and interstate, with top-tier restaurants already reaping the rewards, so I have no doubt Adelaide will embrace this fantastic program,” he said.

“The UberEATS program is about creating experiences to help businesses grow.

“It will not only offer Adelaide restaurants a delivery service, but also access to marketing and events – the Uber marketing network will offer restaurants a really big scope of things that come from the program.”

David Rohrsheim, Uber’s Australia and New Zealand general manager, told Fairfax in July that some Melbourne eateries had increased sales by 20-25 per cent since joining the app.

McFuzzlebutt believes the service will be embraced by Adelaideans who enjoy restaurant food, but are not always able to go out to dine.

There's an Adelaide-based app/service called Mlkman already operating, so I imagine Uber will be pretty tough competition for them.
