SIX people are dead - five from one crash - in a horrific three hours on slippery roads.

Both crashes were scenes of carnage as emergecny services battled rain and devastating sights of six lives lost.

About 12.30pm, one driver was killed instantly when two trucks collided head-on at Port Clinton, near Ardrossan on the Yorke Peninsula.

Major Crash investyigators are continuing investigations and cannot yet confirm how the crash may have happened.

But there is speculation from emergency services workers at the scene that as the crash occured on a slight bend, one of the semi-trailers may have swung wide on the turn, the other unable to avoid the fatal smash in the 100km/h zone.

The collision instantly killed one driver as his cabin disintergrated in the impact.

The force sent both trucks, one carrying a full load of sand, off the road with debris scattered up to 100m away.

One truck literally tore apart as the other came to rest on its roof. The driver of the other truck was taken to Ardrossan Hospital with leg injuries.

Roads are closed to all traffic along Main Coast Rd between Ardrossan and the Port Wakefield turn off.

Less than three hours later another five people were dead.

All were killed instantly when two cars crashed on Main South Rd at Myponga about 3pm. Details are still coming in.
