The application to demolish the Criterion Hotel and undertake additions/alteration to Electra House looks interesting, (granted on the 23/01/06). Does anyone know more details on this? It is hard to tell from the overall original masterplan concept for this site many details on this part of the Block's development.

Obviously they are knocking down the Criterion which will leave a sizeable gap. Is this going to be partly or totally filled in by any additions to Electra House? Any renders of this change on King Willam Street floating about? There must be some somewhere if it has been granted, just not in public hands. I'm sure someone on here has a better understading of this than me. So please provide any info if you have it :D

I picked out the following

- Globe Apartments - Now 10 levels
- LED Screen Rundle Mall - Withdrawn
- 15 Level Apartment on Hindley, Octagon. Approved, demolition to start
- Tram Barn buildings - to be demolished in feb
- Flinders Link DA 410/2003/C/S Mentions a 15 level office tower, for those of you who don't believe me, and think it's 13.

The Criterion will be bulldozed and converted into a thoroughfare to the open space component of city central. I had an old render showing a 2 storey micro brewery, all glass ( :? ) along the northern side of the thoroughfare, nfi where it is now.

Ok, thanks Algernon. Yeah I thought there was something mentioned about a glass microbrewery in that area. Could look nice along with a revamped Electra House, and landscaped area leading to the central open space area and a possible second office tower set back but facing onto King William Street from that view. The mind wanders :D Only time will tell I suppose.

Didn't realise the LED screen has been withdrawn. I thought it was still to be approved.

dissapointing news that the Globe apartment building has been reduced in height, and also the deletion of the LED screen on Rundle Mall is another negative. I hope it wasn't withdrawn because 'it was too modern'.

I think Rundle Mall is a stupid place for the LED screen proposal anyway. Wouldn't one of our public squares be a more ideal place for it? That's what the squares should be for. Unfortunately people don't use the squares too much because they are poorly utilised.

Victoria Square should be the place for something like that but Hindmarsh Square is probably the most practical.

In my ideal vision of Adelaide such a screen would also be used to show major events to large groups of people e.g. Australia in the World Cup, AFL finals involving Adelaide teams, etc.

I still can't find any reference to the LCD screen being withdrawn. According to the January 2006 Registered Planning Consents PDF (page 9) it's still a goer. Am I missing something? I don't care where it goes as long as we have it. :D

The categories don't necessarily mean "big farken building."

Cat 2 means the neighbours have to be notified. Cat 3 means a wider catchment of whiners + poodle can chip in their 2 cents.
