Disssappointing news here considering there was talk of a "landmark" office tower and rumours of 30+ stories.

Yes but give the magnitude of other office developments happening in the city
at the moment, ala 400 KWS, those on Gouger/Coglin Street, Hills Building on KWS,
and possible the Currie Street Tower and a few others one would have been mistified
as to how they could have expected to secure tenants for 30+ storeys. We should be
grateful if it eventuates. If most of these towers get built Adelaide will surely look
different in say 10 years time.

So this is the so called 'landmark' tower?

No shit. We were meant to get a landmark tower, possibly Adelaides tallest, or at least over 100m. Now we are getting another 65m tower, with little to no impact on the skyline, because i imagine it will get 'drowned out' by CC1 sad to say..... sigh, snorkie is very dissapointed, even an awsome design wont cheer me up, lets hope its at least got an active street frontage, otherwise i will be really pissed.
Again, we are promised so much, yet we fall to mediocrity yet again, but why am i not surprised anymore... :(

The plans may well change later on. If anyone remembers what happened to City Central Tower 1, it was originally proposed at 19 levels. Eventually they increased the height of the building by 2 floors when demand for the space exceeded what was expected.

Or maybe the developers have change their mind, and another tower will be the 'landmark' one.

I see your point, but it's a long way to go for the around 30 floors we were hoping for.

Is it possible that the status of landmark tower will be reassigned to one of the other future City Central buildings? I mean, they've already reshuffled things aplenty.

I'm hoping that CC6 or CC5 will be the landmark tower. These were originally planned as hotels and apartments so potenitally a mixed use tower combining all three to become the landmark tower.

And considering the massive demand in apartments atm, it could be one large tower.

Hopefully it will include a 2 level observation deck with a upmarket bar/lounge. That would be so cool

Whilst the height is not that great compared to our expectations I would say it has a lot to do with the height restrictions for that particular site. This is largely thanks to its proximity to Victoria Square, same for the other remaining southern sites eg possible hotel site. It will still have a fairly big impact in that particular area. Hopefully the design quality is high and knowing Aspen it should have a pre-commitment on the cards which means it will likely be built unlike a lot of the current proposals around.

Shuz isnt happy.

I dont understand why there have been so many amendments to the City Central project? It seems like one big mess now.

There have been 'so many amendments' because City Central was originally only a concept plan as a result of the project's long timeline. The plans were always subject to change depending on demand and economic conditions plus any planning constraints or political crap.

It's a dynamic project, that will be changed to suit needs.

I'd never thought I'd see the day people here were dissapointed to get a 17 level tower...

Remember, CC8, there's still a hell of a lot of towers to be announced yet, no need to slash your throats yet!

Agreed. Whereabouts is its exact location in relation to Franklin Street and Victoria Square. You know where my disappointment lies? I believe City Central One should have been the iconic tower, maybe the 30 storey building we were so much looking forward to.

Cheers

This was the prime space for a landmark tower. I am bitterly disappointed it will be filled up by a fat stump of a building. Those of you hoping one of the other towers will be the landmark tower, should not get your hopes up. There are only 2 more sites in the City Central precinct earmarked for towers. The hotel site at approximately 8 Franklin Street and the new GPO offices at 131 KWS. As it stands the hotel will probably be 13 levels and the GPO tower around 8 levels. So it appears that CCT1 will be the 'landmark' tower of City Central; this probably explains why it has the spire.
