An absolute beauty of a skyscraper I think. Calgary shares a parallel with Adelaide in that, it built alot of it's wealth from the resources boom which had a tremendous effect on the psyche of it's residents. Adelaide is often compared with Calgary (in terms of population sizes, 1,019,942 people in Calgary), density, and abundance of resources.
Quote From Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calgary

Oil was first discovered in Alberta in 1902,[10] but it did not become a significant industry in the province until 1947 when huge reserves of it were discovered. Calgary quickly found itself at the centre of the ensuing oil boom. The city's economy grew when oil prices increased with the Arab Oil Embargo of 1973. The population increased by 272,000 in the eighteen years between 1971 (403,000) and 1989 (675,000) and another 345,000 in the next eighteen years (to 1,020,000 in 2007). During these boom years, skyscrapers were constructed at a pace seen by few cities anywhere. The relatively low-rise downtown quickly became dense with tall buildings,[11] a trend that continues to this day.

Just to think, if it actually were serious, how cool would this have looked?

some of you people out there must be pretty dumb, or working for the ACC .. no matter what day it is this kinda building would not be built in this state .. we can barely get 120m buildings approved and built and debate for months whether a building is 14 or 15 storey ... like who gives a fark!!!

Thats false.

20-22 Currie St was approved, without any dramas especially from NIMBYs. Plus there has been hardly any objection to the countless number of proposals around the city.

The only negative things I can think of is Victoria Park, Tramline Extension and Lecornu Site.

Ouch, a bit of a sore spot there.

Nowie, V. bad puppy!

Read this earlier in the day but did not log on - no render and no big black comment about April fool's. The cynic in me then said it was too good to be true. and, what about the ACC - anyway it would be dumbed down. It looks fantastic - that is where we need such a bldg.

ADELAIDE - TOWARDS A GREATE CITY SKYLINE (Like that one in the render)

HAHAH what an awesome joke.

However look at the positive spin off it attracted by having this posted?? Did we see anyone say anything bad about it??......

Jee do the ACC purposely try and want us to leave the state or something??

Maybe they have a bet on if they can outdo the interstate migration figures every year or something?

After this well-executed April 1 hoax, I'm not sure what to make of this proposal for a mile-high tower in Jeddah.

Nobody seems to suspect a leg-pull ... ???

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/a ... ge_id=1811
Mile-high tower: Saudi prince promises £5bn desert spire TWICE as tall as nearest rival being built

[It is being planned for a new city near the Red Sea port of Jeddah. Behind the scheme is 51-year-old Prince al-Walid bin Talal,
who bought the Savoy for £1.25billion in 2005.]

Im not a huge fan of that London tower, looks bleurgh to me, but the Commerzbank is just stunning. A very sophisicated and sleek tower.

That looks brilliant.

Developers can still submit projects, and who says they won't get approved at 158 metres? It's just an extra 20 metres or thereabouts more than Westpac. It's also in the right part of the CBD. The ACC obviously needs time to sort things out before they give us that extra height. We need to be patient it seems.

Cheers

P.S. Thanks for being cheeky Howie.
