Its such a eyesore, would be good if they demolished the whole thing and turn it into a temporary carpark. Not ideal, but it will look much better, or even just leave it as a vacant site.

Article from adelaidenow Howie posted in the North Terrace student apartment thread. This one needs to be changed to approved as well now.

I think these two developments were the last of the $10 million plus developments under Council control, thankfully.
Council approves 18-storey student building

AN Adelaide City Council panel has approved an 18-storey student accommodation building planned for North Tce almost a year and a half after designs were first lodged.

Designers of The Promenade first applied for approval in February last year, just months before the council was stripped of responsibility for developments valued over $10 million.

Along with an 11-storey Andrews St apartment block, also approved last night, it is one of the last major developments controlled by the Development Assessment Panel.

Meetings in December and April resulted in the plans being returned to the developer because the tower clashed with a heritage building.

CITY PLANNING BODY CALLS FOR TOUGHER RULES

Councillor Sandy Wilkinson last night said the lengthy process had delivered a "dignified" and "noble" building.

"I think the public could well ask who they would rather have determining the future form of their city – a discerning DAP or a rubber stamp," he said.

The majority of the public would probably choose the rubber stamp, because at least that way our city is progressing into the future and development/investment is occuring rather than moving elsewhere and interstate, because they were fed up with a discerning DAP that rejected everything
to suit a few minority whingers. The only thing that would be better now is for all office workers and students etc to be given voting rights for ACC elections
so that these pack of whingers in the council start realising that they need to make decisions that suit the majority not some minority, otherwise they will get voted out.
