Seems Harris Scarfe is getting Demolished. Which is awesome as that building is one of my most hated. I really wasn't expecting this proposal. A bit of bulk on Rundle Mall and Grenfell st north is exactly what is needed. This could be the upmarket retail plaza we have been waiting for. This could be the first proposal before the new DAC.

Are we talking the whole of Rundle Mall Harris Scarfe building being demolished? There's two underground levels there already isn't there? Wonder where Harris Scarfe will relocate when it goes u/c?

This is a bit unexpected also, although - what's with the rooftop carpark - Surely at 19 floors above ground, they would use car lifts?

I think it must be a mistake and they will fix it over the next couple of days. Probably Roof Deck.

I should point out that the site is a lot larger than I first thought. From checking out the addresses and site map on Google Earth, I am under the impression that the 4 retail levels will rise to the height of the 4-level heritage building (which Harris Scarfe offices are located in) in a very Myer-esque retail plaza form which takes up the block from Lindes Lane and the very small building adjacent the heritage building on its west side, but not the corner ones (on the Rundle Mall frontage) and also encompassing the U-Park, Harris Scarfe, and right up to the red/orange building on the corner of Gawler Place and Grenfell Street (on the Grenfell street frontage). I'd imagine the U-Park would be retained, which is where the rooftop carpark would be built on top. I would surely expect that the 14 office level tower would sit atop the retail plaza, again in a Myer-esque way only taking up the space between the U-Park and the red/orange building to front Grenfell Street and not onto Rundle Mall itself. I would hope a laneway would take place of the small western building on Rundle Mall, which could incorporate some eateries with active frontages into the plaza? Who knows? A render will tell shortly.

Added in detials for the Regent Arcade 2nd level addition. Certainly look like Rundle mall will be much more impressive in a few years time.

All we need now is a revamp of Rundle Mall and the laneways (such as Gawler Place)

I wonder if this development could be modified to take in the three buildings on Gawler Place that have been up for sale for ages now: Laubman & Pank, Allans Music & Gritti Palace...

How sad about Harris Scarffe... is leaving South Australia completely..?

another great Adelaide institution vanishing... just like Johnnie's... but the building is very old and run down... i do rather like the old school elevators with the conductors on them calling each floor as it arrives, does that still happen..?
